Medicinal Whiskey

During Prohibition, whiskey could be sold legally only with a doctor's prescription. The U.S. Treasury Department, which was in charge of enforcing Prohibition, issued special numbered prescription pads to physicians, printed on safety paper like currency. Here is an actual prescription, written in 1925.

True to form, the large majority of prescriptions were written for women rather than men. It was easier for a woman to get it. A lot of that was then transferred to the ailing husband at home.
So we are left to wonder, did Lillian recover, or was she helping a more sick relative?
