help finding a gift for a bourbon lover?

hey guys, i'm not a bourbon connosieur myself...
but my roommate is.

its his birthday this friday and i thought i'd get him a bottle of some tasty bourbon that he might not buy on his own. any recommendations? i'd spend up to $100.

from what i've been reading about bourbon online just now, however, not many bourbons exist in the price range, if any. is spending more than $50 on a bourbon just a waste of money?

thanks for any advice,
mike

If you can find George T. Stagg, that would be a wonderful gift for a bourbon lover.

Other good gifts are Blanton's, Rock Hill Farms, Pappy Van Winkle (15 or 20 year). Good luck!

We can give you a better idea if we know where you will be shopping.

If you're hellbent on spending a lot of money, why not something like a bottle of Wild Turkey Tribute signed by Jimmy Russel? Hitimewine.net has a few of these for around $100. Then again you could buy 4-5 bottles of something great for the same price! Good luck.

I agree with Doc. Get a few bottles for the $100. Perhaps a rye based, a wheat based and and straight rye?

Besides all the great bourbons you can choose from, you might also include Chuck Cowdery's book, BOURBON, STRAIGHT: The Uncut and Unfiltered Story of American Whiskey. I have given it as a gift for a bourbon lover and it was a great complement to the bottle that went along with it. Good Luck!

Chuck Cowdery's book is a great suggestion, if you can find it in time.

Another idea: Booker's is a great bourbon, and usually comes in a wooden box, suitable for gift wrapping. It's around $50.
