I have a dilemma. Would you buy two bottle of ORVW 10 yr, or OGD 114? I am making a purchase this Friday and I like both, but think ORVW is better tasting.
But OGD 114 is $3 less a bottle.
Your opinion?![]()

Looks to me like things are overwhelmingly in favor of the ORVW... either one is a fine bourbon, so you can't go wrong!
Your right. Looks like two bottles of Julians Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year 107 proof. It is one great wheater bourbon for sure.![]()

Plus it's getting to be summer time, and I've found OGD 114 to be very much a "wintertime" bourbon, while many wheaters make good "summertime" bourbons. This is just MHO, as I'm sure most folks will drink any bourbon at any time of year.Your right. Looks like two bottles of Julians Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year 107 proof. Your right actually. I like a hotter rye in the winter, like OGD 114 and a Wheater in the spring and summer.![]()

Your poll question reminds me of the "Ginger or Mary Ann?" debate, a favorite of young male viewers of the TV series, "Gilligan's Island" a few decades ago. One immediately knows the answer and is unlikely ever to have a change of heart, no matter how strongly friends may disagree. Sure, Ginger may be hotter by a small margin, but Mary Ann has survival skills and intelligence, and besides, you know she'll never cheat on you.
To me ORVW 10/107 is a Bourbon for All Seasons, not merely some nondescript wheater to be relegated to drinking on the rocks while sitting on the porch during a hot, summer afternoon. Sure, OGD 114 is hotter, but when it comes to bourbon, that's seldom a good thing. I might be tempted to have a [another] brief fling with OGD 114, but with all Old Rip has to offer, I know I'd hate myself in the morning.
Yours truly,
Dave Morefield
