Old Rye Whiskey

These bottles were gifts from a dear friend...hidden in her closet for many years. The first gem is a Monongahela Rye that was distilled in 1917 and bottled in 1928.

The back label. This was distilled at C.M. Johnson Distillery for Thompson.

This is another gem.

It was distilled in 1917 and bottled in 1926....but it states " made 15 years ago"...then again the back label has an overlay referring to 1934.

The other oddity is that it was distilled at Thompson in Pa!

Another oddity is a MD tax stamp with a signature from the 1950's or 60's. I believe both of these whiskies were originally discovered when the Merle family bought Standard Distillers.

Here's the key for opening the Monticello....

What a find! So you gonna hold on to them? Drink 'em?

For the time being, they will remain unopened. Eventually the time will come when a tasting will be appropriate.

The period artwork is facinating to me, that Sam Thompson label is a good example. (BTW, it looks as though there is a box in the background that the bottle was packaged in? Could/would you post a picture of the box?)
