    Stores in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge Area?

Anyone know of any good bourbon stores to visit while in the Great Smoky Mountains?

The first one you come to on the left in Gatlinburg(Craft Center) is the best one. However, I looked in all of them last year and your not likely to find anything too special at any of them.
I'm thinking they don't have liquor stores in Pigeon Forge.

Thanks for the info. I didn't expect to find anything too extravagant, but you never know. Specifically, I was hoping to find some Buffalo Trace since it's available in TN, but not in GA.

I have been there before, in the county in which Pigeon Forge is located it is illegal to sell liquor. All you can buy is beer and I believe that there are limitations on the proof and when it can be purchased. The state of Tennessee lets the counties decide their own regulations on alcohol. Gatlinburg is just on the other side of the county line and is a wet county. However, the selection I saw in the stores was limited and generic. In addition you should be ready to pay an extra 50% to 100% more than what you normally pay depending on where you live, and if you frequent the small local place, or the large discount stores. In all fairness I only went into two store on the county line, other stores may vary. If you will be staying a while I suggest you bring your own stash.

In March of 05, there was a store in the process of closing. Was it this one?

Actually, in March 05, we found tax stamp S-W Weller Special Reserve while in Gatlinburg at a store along the Parkway, adjacent to a gas station.

Of course, compared to VA, the TN selection is always a novelty to us.

That very well may be the one that closed. I was there Jan 1 05 and it looked like it had good business. It was in a log or wood siding building.

I guess I missed that Special Reserve. You also must take into account, I was probably already drunk before I even made it to the liquor stores. I had a great time down there. I don't get the opportunity to stay within walking distance of everything to often, so I typically drink much more than usual when I do.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge (as is Sevierville) both are in Sevier County. Gatlinburg, however, is the only one of the cities to allow non-beer liquor sales. In Tennessee, virtually all non-metropolitan 'counties' are dry because a police jurisdiction is required for a liquor license. However, cities (with police forces) by local option can choose -- usually by public referendum -- to allow liquor sales. Gatlinburg has. Pigeon Forge hasn't.

If you are driving up from Georgia via I75, I recommend McScrooges. It is located in Knoxville, just south of I75/I40 at the Cedar Bluff exit. It is one block south of the Interstate on the right. They have a very good selection of bourbons.
