Personal Bourbon Databases

I know several people here use some sort of computer database to keep track of their bottles. I was wondering what program they use and how much info on each bottle they put in.

I am currently using Excel and have categories for name, age, proof, distillery, vintage, bottled on, barreled on, type and number of.

My problem came when I just used the current bottler for each bottle(ie. Charter is BT). This didn't help me to know that the Old Charter 12yo I had was actually a Louisville bottling(a nice surprise). I was going to correct this by adding in the UPC for each bottling-I figured that would give me a good idea of where each came from and who the owner was at the time. However I have one bottle that throws even that out the window, Old Fitz BIB Distilled at DSP-1 bottled at DSP-31, UPC 88076(UDV).

What does everyone else do? Program? Categories?

I don't go into such elaborate detail but I copied our bourbon database into an excel spreadsheet and have added on from there. I shade the bottles I have in one color, the ones I am currently waiting for via trades or orders in another and those I want to pick up next Kentucky trip in a third. If I have an older bottling from a newer owner I list the bottle by the older distillery owner name in the description.

I created my own database in Excel, including the following headings:
"Bourbon/Whiskey name", "Size", "Proof", "Distillery", "D.S.P #", "UPC", "Past Distillery/D.S.P. #", "Past UPC", "Cost", "Quantity", "Current Price", "Total Value".
Too bad I don't keep it up-to-date as well as I should.

I just have a simple two-table Access database that allows me to keep track of what I have, and what I've had. I record what, how many bought, current # remaining (from that purchase), store, price and distillery. It allows me to print a menu of sorts, so that I can see what I still have.

Its far less elaborate than the database I put together to track my green coffee roasting and inventory, but it does what I need it to do. I might add info on wheter a given whiskey is worth buying again (perhaps on a scale of 1 - 10?).

I keep track of mine in ListPro, a small database app designed for handhelds. It syncs between my PC and my Treo 650, so I always have the database with me everywhere I go, and can edit it either on the PC or on-the-go. The database is a combined "what I have" and "what I want" list. Very handy.

I am broadening my database to incoporate all spirits I own but for right now I did it only for my tequila.

What categories do you use to keep track? The older bottlings are causing me a headache.

I have an extensive database to keep track of a couple hundred bottles. I use Microsoft Access. This database is tops for this sort of thing.
