    Rare

I have just rec'ed a bottle of bourbon called "WHITE BISON BOURBON".
This bottle is ceramic and dipped in bround wax. The bottle has a raised
bison on the front and a handle and is all white. The bottle comes in a
rather nice wood box which is engrave with a bison and the name of the
bourbon. This is then in a cardboard box also with the same bison and name.
A sticker on the bottle states the bourbon was distilled in kentucky and
hand bottled by white bison disilling co. in Weston MO.
I was told this very rare and worth several hundred $$$.
I have a large collection of hard to find spirits but this is new to me.
Can anyone tell me what I have?

    Re: Rare

If it is worth money, it is because of the decanter, not the bourbon, except in the sense that decanter collectors prefer them to be unopened. "Weston, MO" is McCormick, a small and undistinguished distiller, mostly interesting for the novelty of their being a non-Kentucky bourbon maker.

    Re: Rare

In case any of you are such collectors of the decantors, I stumbled upon this "rare" item myself today in a little liquor store in St Louis County. The owner said it has been on the shelf since she bought the place five years ago. With a sticker priced at $147.99 I don't doubt it. It was just as described, white decanter with brown wax seal in a wooden display case. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to pick it up and am planning on being at the April tasting in Bardstown, tentatively. Let me know.

Picked it up for a discount of the stated price. Here's a picture:

Yeah, I thought so at the time. But Barrel_Proof told me last night he knew where I could buy it for a third of what I paid for it...if I was willing to buy 20 or so cases.

Now be fair, Dane, I mentioned the crazy case price BEFORE you had revealed that you had purchased that "discounted" bottle of White Bison.

I would hope that I would have been more circumspect or not have conveyed the news at all, had I known.

That is the jest a lot of times , isn't it?
We buy the one bottle we can afford and pay a premium, or take or chances on cornering the market.
I'm not sure I'd sleep all that well with 20 cases of it stashed away.

Then I suppose if you felt you could move it at a decent profit, What are you waiting for?

That does say 10 years old and 101 proof?

    Re: Rare

Cliff, I'm not blaming you. You had already told me that you weren't interested at that price. I bought it because of a temporary brain fart. It was my choice. It had been there for five years, it would probably have been there five more if I hadn't given in to those voices in my head. I place no blame on you, and actually I'm finding my lack of willpower to be amusing in this case. I just like to whine a bit and then move on. There, I feel much better.
