michter's unblended

I'm sure this has come up before, the search is leaving me blank (or I'm using it ineffectually). Does anyone have any info on the Michter's Unblended whisky? It really does taste different than anything else I've tried. The first time I ever used the word "chocolate" when describing it.
What is the premise behind this?

I don't know anything more about this hooch than you do, hookfinger, but I just snagged a bottle of it today at the State Store. Marked down four bucks too! I went searching for info about it and came upon this post, so - bump!

After I get the chores done I'll break it open. The store had Michter's Rye and single barrel bourbon for fifty puppies a go. The "unblended whiskey" was half that, on sale.

I suspect the key is the description on the label about the stuff being aged in "bourbon soaked barrels". That's why it can't be bourbon - which must be aged in new charred barrels. I gotta say, the idea sounds promising. I think some scotch comes from sherry-soaked barrels.

I have a bottle of this and it is much different than the Michter's bourbon. I find it incredibly sweet, but not sweet like bourbon. Not one of my favorites but it makes a great Manhattan!

Had a dram of this last night. Quite sweet and buttery, with a fake-butter, fake-syrup nose reminiscent of Eggo waffles.

I liked it more than the above lets on, but only somewhat more.

I know exactly the flavor you mean here. The problem is, if you are used to bourbon, it is QUITE different.
