Rum question from a dummy!

I just bought a "texas fifth" 1.75 liter bottle of Sailor Jerry spiced Navy rum 92 proof...
It is for tomorrow night... In ya'lls opinion is it a better rum than the capt.?
My wife likes CM for her pina colada that she drinks one or 2 of on new years... the rest is for me...
is it lighter fluid or a good industrial rum?

I personally see the "bang for the buck" in the higher proof!

I am not a Rum drinker, but I believe that neither of these are very *good* rums. I think this is like comparing Old Crow to Ten High.

My favorite rum is Myers's.
It is a dark rum, it mixes great with everything.

I have never personally had any Sailor Jerry spiced rum but I do know that the liquor store in my town sell a lot of it as well as another brand called lady Bligh spiced rum. It seems it these interchange pretty well with Captain Morgan. The Lady Bligh sells for about 9.00 for 1L as opposed to 17.00 per 1L for Captain Morgan. My favorite of them all is the Captain Morgan silver rum. It is a very good rum to mix with!

Obviously, Sailor Jerry and Lady Bligh are Captain Morgan knock-offs. Since Captain Morgan is just basic, mass-produced white (i.e., unaged) rum with flavoring added, it shouldn't be too hard to reverse engineer and duplicate. I would expect that someone accustomed to drining pina coladas made with Morgan would not notice the substitution.

I picked up a bottle of Sailor Jerry's Rum last year to mix with apple cider for a hayride/bonfire and I have to tell you that I barely caught a buzz that night (due to the overpowering rubbing alcohol smell and taste) and was sick as a dog the whole next day. I could smell the rum coming out of my pores and have not been able to even look at the bottle since. Before my re-introduction to bourbon, I was a rum and coke guy at the bars and preferred the Mount Gay when I could get it. That was before the Captain set sail though, many moons ago....Now when I want rum, I keep a bottle of Pyrat XO at home. I'd add a bottle of Santa Therese if I could find any out here....
