New Orleans?

A friend of mine is going to New Orleans in October...I know it's a ways off...he is willing to bring back some bottles for me. My wish list of bottles to try is not extensive. I would like to try some Saz Jr., AAA, and Four Roses (but that’s only available in Kentucky?) and maybe a Saz 18 to bunker. Anyone have any suggestions on what he might find there or the prices I can expect?

I haven't been to New Orleans in quite a few years, but my recollection is that liquor prices were exceptionally low. At least for mass market items. Things may have changed.

Well, I haven't been to NOLA yet, but I do go to school in Louisiana (Lafayette). Saz Jr. seems to be in good supply (cheaper than WT Rye), but I have not seen any AAA and of course FR is not to be found. I haven't seen any BTAC either, even though I keep asking the local place to order some every year before it comes out.

Of course, it what I find locally and what is available in NOLA may be different.

I was in New Orleans two weeks ago. I only got to check downtown stores but they have nothing special. Only run-of-the-mill stuff and I found the prices excessively expensive. ie. pint of WT 101 for 13 bucks.

You went to the wrong place my friend! Even the grocery stores have decent selections here. Dorignac's or Martin Wine Cellar would have been a good stop with fair prices. The competition keeps mark ups pretty low. Saz "Jr" is in abundant supply. AAA and 4 Roses has yet to be seen by these eyes. The new chardonnay Experimental Collection should arrive at Martin Wine Cellar this week, but supply is very thin this year. There should be a few Antique Collection bottles floating around, but they might take some digging to find them. Call ahead wherever you go. There's also a few bottles of Hirsch 16 still on the shelves that would be a nice addition to a collection. Kentucky Bourbon Distillers is also well represented.

There is a store in the Quarter on Chatres or Royal about 1/3 into the Quarter from Canal. It is on the south side of the street. Narrow frontage but deep. They have a pretty good selection.

Sazerac 18 was $25 I think.

Dorignac's In Metairie has a pretty good selection. Prices are competative.
I make a foray down every so often for bourbons that I can't find here. Downtown in N.O. proper expect to pay higher prices.

Well thanks for the scoop. I will have some time to save up a few dollars so he can pick me up some goodies. At least I have an idea what to ask him to look out for.
Adding some Saz Jr to the shelf would be a good thing.
