What would you buy?

Ken, thanks, exactly, I meant, what do I want to buy next that I can't obtain locally. Since Kentucky is a locus of bourbon production and availability, I key what I want by that market (admitting not every brand may be available there every time, e.g., maybe I saw the Fox in Chicago, not Kentucky recently!).

I was in Indianapolis a couple of weeks ago and had an (unexpected) quick trip to Cinci. I ended up staying the night in Covington, KY.

I ended up picking up a couple of KY-only bottles: VOB BIB; Old HH Very Rare Old 10 Year Old (can I abbreviate that: OHHVRO10? ); and Rock Hill Farms SB.

I hadn't had a chance to try any of these yet (and still haven't opened them).

Pert near ever time I git to Kentuck, I pick me up soma that there AAA 10 yr, Very Rare Old Heaven Hill 10 yr, and Four Roses Single Barrel and Small Batch. Seein' that bout ever week or so, somebody from SB.com moves there, I just might be fixin' to move thar myself!!

For me it's pretty much always the same:

VOB BIB
Four Roses (any and all expressions)
Heaven Hill 10 BIB
Some other Heaven Hill BIB.

Pretty much my default selection, except I'd throw in a OF 100 and alternately, something from Van Winkle. I've been impressed by the recent (non-SW) 10 and 12 year old bourbons.

I would have to get some Four Roses...and I would like to try some AAA. I am sure I could not top there, but those are on my wish list.

I would recommend any of the Four Roses, Very Rare Old Heaven Hill BIB, and any others not available in my own area. For the record, I did see some VG 90 at more than one store in Kentucky last month!

Another vote for VROHH. I think I was one of the first to rave about this as being the much cheaper, but equal to it's pricier brother, EWSB. Hopefully my mom will bring me a case this weekend. It really is that good.

Get the 1792 for the decanter, but you won't really care for the whiskey. Get a 1.75L of VOB90, or BIB to refill it with, as either is a more robust, and complex taste than the watered down 1792 (which is a Barton BTW).

Glad to read your opinion which is exactly opposite from mine. Did you ever have it at barrel proof? Good stuff IMO.

Never had the pleasure of ANY barrel proof Barton, but I would love to try it! However we seem to be speaking the same if you think the barrel proof is better, and I recommended the 90 or 100 proof Bartons for the same reasons. 1792 is 94 proof, but seems weaker to me than the regular Barton. maybe it is the higher price that has me expecting more, but I personally don't like to pay a premium for an average whiskey. I'm not being critical of anyone's tastes, just stating that if you are expecting a premium taste, I think most folks would be disappointed. I also think that there are no bad bourbons, just some are better than others.
