Heidi of our East Bay Study Group (and 5 Cent Coffee fame) brought this interesting cocktail mixer to the party.
It's called Falernum, originally a Barbados product, that is/was produced and marketed in the US by Sazerac. Nobody knew anything more about it than was on the label. We deduced it was '80s or later, but felt it was not recently made. Of the many non-whiskey products that go through the BT facility, this was something that apparently hasn't gone through there in this decade, anyway.
Here's the "Falernum Cocktail" recipe printed on the label:
1 oz. Pineapple Juice
1/2 oz. Creme de Noya
1 oz. Lime Juice
1/2 oz. Falernum
1 oz. Light Rum
1 dash Pechaud's Bitters
Blend lightly with crushed ice and serve in champagne glasses. Place slice of orange on rim.
The presence of Peychaud's made us think the Falernum Cocktail was a New Orleans drink that used a Barbadan mixer, not a drink that was brought to New Orleans.
Anyone know of this drink?
