    Re: Kentucky Bourbon in China

I say, sell as much as you can. I want the BT's, HH's etc to be as successful as they can be. But regardless of what the bourbon producers may sell, I don't believe it will be so overwheming as to upset the market here in North America. We, as a country/region, have overestimated what we can sell to the Chinese market, since it was more fully opened up a decade or so ago. I think we, as consumers, will be OK. No $30 JBW, or $75 ETL on the horizen. I am thinking more of the prospect of (a good one, or bad one...take your pick) a high quality Chinese "bourbon?" at $6/750ml. That, has been more of the model of our trade relations to date.

If bourbon makes a big splash in China, it will only be a matter of time before they start counterfeiting bourbon…just like they do with all kinds of other products.

Kim in NK wants some too…

And who says they aren't already? Hell who says every bottle of old stock stuff you get off ebay is real?

Anything that reaches a high enough value will be counterfeited. It's only a matter of whether it is cost effective to do so....shoes, purses, wallets, cars (you should see the blatant rip offs you can get in China), then of course there are gray-market imports, stolen merchandise...

Indeed, they probably got 10-year olds printing Pappy, Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, etc., labels in sweat shops as I post this...
