Hi everyone, my name's Tom.
I've had various whiskies but never really appreciated them. I've always been more of a cognac guy. My cognac experiences ranged from Hennessy VS to Remy Martin Louis XIII.

I recently purchased a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 to start off my bourbon journey and I really enjoyed it.

I hope to share experiances and learn a lot from you all.

Wow! That's quite a jump from cognac, at least as I remember it from 25 years ago, to Wild Turkey.

If you had asked me ahead of time, I would have suggested some other, less assertive bottling for your introduction to bourbon.

Eagle Rare Single Barrel has always reminded me of my memory of cognac. To my taste it suggests a slight fruitiness without being forward about it.

Another departure from WT worth exploring is anything with the Van Winkle name.

In my youth the Crown Victoria was a slightly up-market version of the Ford Fairlane. It sported, if that's the right word, a huge band of chrome that extended across the middle of the roof, down the center pillars and then along the bottom of the windows to the tail light assemblies. Is that car the inspiration for your screen name?

No, sir. You must be referring to the much older first and second generation Crown Victorias.

The Crown Victoria my screenname is drawn from is my personal vehicle.
2001 Ford Crown Victoria LX. Mostly associated with police cars, the Crown Vic is a large, comfy sedan with a floaty and almost boat-like ride.

It shares the same styling and platform as Mercury's Grand Marquis and Lincoln's Town Car.

But back on topic, yes it was quite a change to transition from pricey cognacs to more modest bourbons, but it's a change I want to make so I can learn and appreciate a much different spirit.

Cognacs and whiskies are so much different it makes ANY whiskey experience a treat after being a cognac-oholic .

Any yes, the Wild Turkey 101 was much bolder and harsher in the nose and taste than say, a decent VSOP.
