Re: What are you drinking tonight? (Fall '07)

I really think it would beat the '07 Stagg at barrell
I think like the Stagg each year has it's own personality. I feel this years ER 17 is one of the better years I've had. I foound the 06 very mild and at 90 proof and 60 bucks I did not replace the bottle. I have the 2005 as well and it to is very good.

I do thisnk your right if the ER 17 was Barrel Proof I think it would walk all over this years Stagg.

Tony, are you and EC fan? Just curious. If so, are you an Evan Williams fan? I have the '97 and had exactly one drink and found it full of Earth! While I'm certainly not a wheater fan as of late, I'm also certainly not a Evan Williams '97 fan either.

tonight I'm follwoing Crispy Critter lead and celebrating the end of prohibition with straight rye. Started it off with some SAZ 18. very nice. Up next is VWFRR bolder more heat very very nice. Then to stay on the rye theme and the demise of prohibtion I thought I go with Templeton Rye as it is a prohibition style whishey. man if that is what they drank during prohibition I don't think I would have started back up after repeal. not so good. I will have to Gillmanize it. Perhaps some candy canes and some brandy. Might just make a good holiday pour.

Celebrated Repeal Day with a taste-off of 1970's Early Times and a nip of the modern-era Early Times yellow label from Japan. The old stuff won, hands down.

(Not yet ready to break open today's acquisition of 3 of the 2007 BTAC: Handy, Saz 18 and WLW!)

Last night, I had 2.5 ounces of Jim Beam Black, and 4 ice cubes. Tonight, I may have 2.5-3 ounces of Jack Daniels and 4 ice cubes. Doing a little compare/contrast.

Red face Re: What are you drinking tonight? (Fall '07)

odd. i have this Stagg 07...wonderful stuff. and a bunch of other goodies. but i am actually sipping on EW 1783 (yep, the 'No. 10' not the '10 year') which i bought on closeout for $8.99 here in PA...

after too much of a good thing, sure it tasted one dimensional.

but after two weeks of not many pours, i've actually spent some time accepting this where it stands. and yes, it isn't great/fine whiskey. but it really is good. and that's not the same as saying 'it isn't bad...' !!

i can imagine it is SO much better if aged longer. some third and fourth dimensionalities might occur! but as it stands, it's like it's at the cusp of being sweet.

i will return as well, tonight, to the OGD BIB...that one still challenges me. it's totally different. wilder. maybe a bit more brash (that 'vegetal' thing...).

Forester 100 proof with a splash of seltzer. Good, solid traditional stuff.

I started out with some PVW 15 and then went to EWSB '97 which I no longer hate. What a shock! As tastes are acquired, my views on bourbon change. I love it. The unfortunate part of this, the bourbons that I loved before I either like or dislike totally. Oh well.

I'm not sure what's next, but I think I need to eat first.

Just finished a bottle of VOB (80 proof aged in oak). Been nice. Gonna stop there for tonight because I want to move onto some OGD and don't know how well they will mix taste wise.
