    Blinker cocktail

    Had dinner at a small LES restaurant in NYC called Little Giant. Quaint place, American comfort food with a gourmet twist. Fantastic wine list.

    Anyway, my cocktail (which I had never heard of) was a Blinker: 1 shot Sazerac rye, 1/2 shot fresh grapefruit juice, 1/4 shot their homemade grenadine, 2 shakes Angostura bitters. The rye is definitely toned down by the fruit, but I really enjoyed it and plan on making it at home.

    Checked some internet sites; Old Overholt is popular. Bitters aren't included. A common variation is raspberry syrup or fresh raspberries muddled with some simple syrup.

    I think this cocktail is better with the raspberry syrup. The mustiness of the berries marries very well with the rye.
