Pritchard's Double Barrel

I stumbled on a bottle of Pritchard's Double Barrel Bourbon. I found a few posts on it way back from '04. Worth $50.00? Any one have tasting notes on it? I realize notes are subjective, but if 10 people on this board say it smells like an outhouse at the state fair, I probably wouldn't spend the cash. On the other hand, if it's a value (I saw it online for $75.) I may be inclined to pick it up.

Yeah, a buddy of mine picked some up for me one time. It was alright. however, for $50 I can get a lot more than an alright bourbon...

I have it in my store, but I haven't had it yet.

My great friends at Bourbon restaurant thought enough of it to recommend it to me, though. I'm no slouch, but they are the "black belts" who I defer to when in doubt.

I'll try to get to it soon and report what I can.

This site can match that deferrment, and raise it. (If I recall correctly, the Bourbon restaurant you're citing has the non-existent Pappy 30 on its drinks menu. And, yes, we've confirmed that -- the bottler is a valued member here.)

According to their drinks menu they are also selling illegally obtained bottlings...WT Tribute Japanese release, WT Freedom, Evan Williams 23yo-all export bottlings...Very Old Barton (not sold in D.C- IIRC) and are Beam 8 Star and Early Times actual BOURBONS?

The "Pappy 30" is off the list.

As for the Japanese bottlings--in DC, anything you acquire can be cleared into the city for sale given appropriate licensing. It's a throwback from the days after Prohibition when the embassies raised a serious stink about alcohol laws and their cutting into embassy functions.

And EW 23yo is available at the Bourbon Heritage Center.

No illegally-obtained Bourbons there, my friend. Jake is correct about the D.C. liquor code, but many of their rare bottlings are brought in for them by a new-this-year fully licensed D.C. liquor distributor, which is how I am able to buy and sell some of these things in my store. This is what helps to make D.C. such a vibrant alcohol market. :-)

An interesting and highly useful little loophole. A great use of it too, making it possible to distinguish itself from any other bars who wouldn't go to the trouble.
