I was at a local liquor store today, and they had several bottles of Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 23 year, for $194. I've only seen it online for ~$300, so I am only assuming this is a good price. Anyone think it's worth a purchase at that price?

I've only ever seen those go over $210 each when being sold on ebay. I'd say $194 is not a bad price; it's lower, but only by a few dollars, than the cheapest I've seen these for.

Never seen it under $200. In fact, the last 2 years all I have seen have been priced at $225+......so, $194 would sure tempt me!
That's the lowest I have ever seen it.
I was at a restaurant yesterday that had Pappy 23 for $32.00 per serving, needless to say I did not ask to be served.

Oscar,
IMHO that was a bargain rate for a pour (assuming 1 1/2 oz). That's less than 2X retail for the whole bottle. Most restaurants/bars I've been at want to generate at least 3X retail and 4X is not uncommon.

Yeah Tom you are correct but I just didn't want to do it.
I had a Pappy 20 yo at The Tavern in Bardstown once and it was only $9.00, yesterday that place had it at $20.00.

Oscar,
Didn't mean to question your decision making, just pointing out that it was cheap, at least compared to the $80 for Pappy 23 the last time I saw it on a menu.
To be honest, I generally avoid the higher priced whisk(e)ys when we are out. Which for me means that I generally end up drinking scotch since I prefer JWB over most of the mid priced bourbons. I'll save my $$ by drinking the good bourbon at home (or when visiting friends with even better collections <G>).
Tom
(who now asks the price before ordering after paying $20 for a pour of Johnny Walker Gold in a Crystal City VA bar - at least I found I liked it enough to pay $55 a bottle)
