Custom Made Whiskey?

Hello, I am new to this board so sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything after a quick search on this and another board. Does anyone have any experience with custom made or DIY whiskey programs like these:

Also, are there any other programs out there? I would be very interested in hearing from somebody who has done this.

Buffalo Trace is starting a custom distillation program , but I'm not sure if they've released specifics yet. It may or may not be similar.

Templeton Rye is considering selling a kit of their white dog and a fresh 1 gallon barrel for consumers to age or drink as they see fit. It was still a concept when I talked with Scott Bush about it a few months back. I liked his white dog enough that I'd buy it straight if he chose to sell it that way.

This is something people are only now just starting to talk and speculate about. It hasn't really been done, so there's not really much guidance anyone can give. Sounds like fun, though. The problem is the same one the commercial distilleries face, you have to wait years to see if it worked.
