Evan Williams Bottled in Bond

Hello,

Its been a long time since I participated in this forum. I moved to TN. The selection is a little different here than it was in KS. I can get Four Roses which I have yet to try and Barton's VOB which I like a lot. I also wanted to get some Evan Williams and I bought the White Label, the 100 Proof Bottled in Bond and it tastes a lot better to me than the Black Label. What I don't understand is how this can be as I thought the Black Label was aged more and the White Label was unaged. Yet time and time again I try both and find the White Label at 100 proof to taste to me like a Premium Whiskey. It is also quite inexpensive. I think I got a bottle for under ten dollars.

Has anyone else tried the Evan Williams White Label?

I quite like EW BIB. I will admit to not having compared it to EW Black, though. Interesting it doesn't seem that EW BIB is available in KY-(I will admit my reference here is Bourbons Bistro' Bourbon List-they say if they can get it in Louisville, they put it on the shelf). I expect it to be comparable to some of the other HH BIBs and have been putting together a fairly complete set to do a tasting of in the somewhat near future.

So far I have:
HH BIB Gold label
HH BIB 6yo White with green
VROHH 10yo BIB
EW BIB White Label

To be added:
J.W. Dant BIB
J.T.S. Brown BIB
Henry McKenna SB BIB

I think that will exhaust the HH BIB rye-recipe bourbons.

I've seen EW BIB (white) in stores serviced by SE (Chattanooga) distributors here in Tennessee. It is NOT available in Middle Tennessee. Not sure about East (Knoxville) and West (Memphis).

Many of the bond labels are still live because I've seen them, still in the books. Bonded order's have always been rather small compared to the other bottling's that we do. It seems that bottling the "bonded product" becomes far and few nowdays. Before shutdown, one (1) of my oder's...44 thousand (44,000 cases)...not bond though.

Hmmm, now where was I the last time I saw any T.W. Samuels...not sure...well, if I run across a bottle I'll add it into the box for the tasting, since I have no set date for when I'm gonna do this, there's a good chance I'll find one.

This is an aside, but I looked under "other bourbons" and was surprised to see that Cabin Still is owned by Heaven Hill. I had thought it was sold by UDV to David Sherman, and that presumably HH was filling orders for Sherman. Maybe I have Cabin Still and Rebel Yell mixed up - or am just totally off.

We still own Cabin Still and yes, Sherman owns the Rebel Yell.
