OGD 114 Question and Comment

My question is whether the 114 is older than either the BIB or 86 proof varieties. How old is this stuff?

My comment is that after reading the "Bourbon of the Month" threads repeatedly it appears that this bourbon received the most consistent praise by all posters (almost all bourbons had haters, but not this one). Would you say that this is really a very special bourbon that should be in folks' top 5 considering its value? Taken with water it seems to revert to the BIB variety w/ a bit more wood and perhaps, complexity. I think this is a pretty special pour.

According to a search I just did, OGD was 10 years old back in 1987. Please see quote below:

Even if he is correct, it still doesn't answer your question of how old the current bottling is. Though, given the fact that many here have said that Beam has done a very good job with matching the ND OGD, I'd assume that Beam probably followed ND's lead without much change. However, you know what they say when you assume.

And, if my assumption is correct, then OGD would be older than both the BIB and 86 proof.

I don't know about tasting older, but 114 certainly tastes better to me. It is easily in my top ten.

I can't help on the age either. But, OGD 114 is an awesome bourbon. A slightly burnt, corner of the brownie pan taste, to me. Easily in my "All-Time", Top 5. Of Course, there are at least 9 bourbons in my Top 5....

I heard that 114 was like Basil Haydens. I have a bottle of 114 and of BiB... but have not compared. There is something special in the OGD I like. I don't know what it is yet. I don't think it has to do with age though.

It's very likely the high rye content.

I always have a bottle of OGD BiB in my cabinet, but somehow have never managed to pick up a bottle of the 114. I must remedy that!

Well, I just finished a bottle of 114. Wonderful stuff. Isn't basil hadens like 86 proof? I imagine they taste quite different...

I don't know the answer to the Age question. But I really like ODG114. As a matter of fact it is what I poured myself before logging in tonight. I also like the BIB verison but don't really care for Basils or the 80 proof ODG. ODG 114 has a dryness to it as well as some cottoncandy sweetness(?) and of coarse the peppery rye-ness. At any rate you gotta love the stuff.
