Well at least according to Outback Steak House.

Now just the mention of Outback Steak can cause a seperate conversation on how good their steaks are, but for me, about twice a year I eat at an Outback. Maybe someone's birthday. But if my wife and I go on our own, it tends to be more about their baked potato and the ranch dressing they put on the salads then it is about the steak.

Anyhow, I was looking at the menu, and noticed Jack was listed as a bourbon. Made me want to write their corporate.

You notice this listed from time to time, as many people want to group all American whiskeys as burbons (sort of like calling all whiskeys from Scotland scotches).

You'll find different views on the board as to how much of a transgression, if any, it is to call Jack Daniels a Bourbon. Personally, it's not something I get too upset about.

And in fact, all whiskeys from Scotland can be called Scotch in the US. (They don't use the term "Scotch" in Scotland, they just call it whisky).

Hmm. I haven't ever thought outback was so stellar, just pricey for what you get. I'd rather go to texas roadhouse if I must go to a "mainstream" steak place...

What's even more odd is I've seen Crown Royal listed under 'bourbon' but I can't remember where I saw that. Some chain restaurant.

The Jack Daniels "Old No. 8" sold by Schenley just before repeal, was listed as a "bourbon" on the label.

Not at all uncommon around here to see Crown listed as bourbon.

Did you enlighten this individual or decide to let them go on wallowing in blissful ignorance?

I tried to enlighten him but he told me that he got the information from a friend who was a long time distributor and extremely well informed on the subject. I decided it was best to let him live in ignorance. If/when the opportunity arrives maybe I'll give it another try.
