I was in the mood for something a bit peaty, but not too much. A little sweetness mixed in would be nice too. I found the 1995 Lagavulin Distillers Edition fit this bill perfectly.

Has anyone tried the new 1996 version? It sounds like the PX Sherry casks may not have had quite the same level of influence.

I can't compare to the 1995, but I rather like the 1996. I opened it with a good friend well into the evening a few months back and remember a good deal of dark chocolate type sweetness. Might have to dig that out and revisit this weekend.

Needed a cheapish blend to fill out the cabinet. Bought some Black Grouse. It's actually very nice as blended Scotch goes. Much better than the regular Grouse. Peaty but not as immature as, say, JW Red, or Black Bottle.
I guess "give 'em the bird" isn't just a marketing slogan, it's a brand management strategy, too.

I'm enjoying a nice pour of Lag 16 after a 70 hour work week.

Round one is Balvenie 15 year single barrel. The quintessential Balvenie IMO.

Ardbeg Galileo. I have been trying to finish the half bottle split from this winter - I just haven't been feeling this whisky.
