Re: Which Water of Life Did You Purchase Today?

Today I picked up a bottle of Redbreast 12 and the 1993 Signatory Vintage bottling of Ledaig (15 y/o). I know Tobermory has a bad rep with some people but the Ledaig was a very nice late Septemeber afternoon sipper. It reminded me a bit of honey and lemon tea with a nice parting shot of peat in the finish. And the Redbreast, wow. The best Irish Whiskey I've ever had, hands down, and probably in my top 10 whiskeys of any type. Something bourbonesque about it for sure.

A 4/5 Quart of Grant's blended with an 8yr age statement on it. Thought it might be ok for under $20.

I am very excited about my purchase today! Walked into a store I'd been in before looking at bourbon and never noticed this bottle! It's a 90 proof, tax stamped Laphroaig 10 yr old with the old box. Bottle has oz and ml on it, should be really tasty! Sorry the pictures suck, they were taken with my phone.

    Cheers

Tony, you lucky dog! I've thought that Laphroaig 10 yr has lost some of it's challenge in recent times. I'd be interested to know if it's me or the whisky that's changed.

I picked up some MacPhail's Collection. I feel like I've got to support an effort to bring out some decently priced Scotch (less than $30/bottle). I grabbed the Highland Park and the Glenrothes.

Stu and Doug swear the older Laphroaig pre Fleur de lis was fantastic. I can't handle the smoke in scotch especially when it's that pronounced.

Picked up a Jura Superstition. My first taste of it. Shows nice smoke with a spicy finish. Very enjoyable, but not terribly complex.
    Whisk(e)y - a bargain at any price !!!

In Chicago on Saturday, I got to taste a load of great Scotches. I wanted to take them all home with me but had to settle for two. I picked up a bottle of Springbank 10 y/o and Compass Box's The Peat Monster. I'm looking forward to breaking them open sometime this week!
