Both seem to have gotten hard to find, at least in the few places I shop. I have the Yamazaki but haven't seen the Hibiki in a while. Used to be pretty common. Rumor was the tsunami affected availability but I have no way to confirm that. Originally Posted by smokinjoe

Id take the Yamazaki over the Hibiki each and every day. I would take the Nikka Yoichi over both of them combined, however. My fave of the Japanese so far.

Had a finger pour of some Yamazaki 1984 today. Mind-blowing, with sherry fruitiness over a warming barley heat and a perfectly balanced, everlasting finish. The bartender caught me licking the inside of my upturned glass. Best Japanese I've had yet. Itching to try the Hibiki 21, and Yoichi if I come across it.
I am not content with saying "when it's gone, it's gone" - I would like some to enjoy down the road.
