Re: Which Water of Life Did You Purchase Today?

As stated it is a Sea Dragon, I paid $220 back when it first came out in 2004. My review of it is here if you want to read it. It is worth at least $700 now so if you paid near list you got a deal!

Does anyone know anything about it??? I'm anxious to crack it open !!!

Re: Which Water of Life Did You Purchase Today?

I was contacted by someone on craigslist today regarding a bottle of Haig & Haig Scotch that is pre-WWII. I'm not the biggest scotch drinker, but the older bottles always intrigue me. Is this something I should jump on?

I'm in the process of getting pictures.

While I've never had pre WWII Pinch (here in the US, The Dimple everywhere else) I have had 1930's Johnnie Walker side by side with a modern version and while you certainly could taste the similarities they weren't exactly the same. I personally liked the newer one better.

Picked up a dusty bottle of Dewar's White Label. I believe I can see a 1969 on the back of the label, and it has a 1968 Pennsylvania tax stamp.

It's amazing how much this tastes like the current stuff. The scotch distillers are awfully consistent over the years.

Picked up a Bowmore 12 and a Centennial Reserve Rye 10yr. The rye was surprisingly smooth for the price ($25) and rather enjoyable. I look forward to sipping it again.

It's not the distillers that are consistent so much as the blenders. Especially considering that distilleries may close down, change ownership, etc., and the blenders that rely on those whiskies for their blends have to find substitutes without altering the taste significantly.

Ah, finally getting into the Canadians, eh? Good to hear. If you like Centennial, try these from the same distillery:

Century Reserve Lot 1525 ($30 from the LCBO). Aged 15-25 years.
Century Reserve 21 year old ($48.95). Pure corn whisky, apparently. Very, very nice, but subtle. Probably the smoothest whisky I've ever had, if that counts for something.

Yeah, I had to break down at some point . I was eyeing that 21 year old too yesterday. I may just pick it up. But I will certainly get the Lot 1525. That's an easier price to to take a chance on.

absolutely ceramic! I looked. And it's open, but I can't remember it. Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend
