Forty Creek Double Barrel

The description on the page is a bit confusing, but this looks like Forty Creek that is finished in used bourbon cooperage. As Canadian's go, Forty Creek is my favorite (and that of a couple of higher up's at work). It's will be interesting to see how the character of the whiskey changes when it's not finished in sherry barrels.

It's a "limited" run of 10,200 bottles according to the site (though Malt Advocate had a figure of 6200 in the little snippet in this months magazine).

I'm looking forward to trying this.

Good eye to see that, and I think your interpretation of John Hall's notes is correct. Looking forward to trying this too. One might infer that the whiskies are, prior to finishing in used sherry or (now) bourbon barrels, aged in new barrels, either toasted or perhaps charred for some of them.

I've always thought Barrel Select was a little bit overrated, but I did enjoy it quite a bit the last time I had it. I never got around to trying the John Hall Reserve; the price was not attractive to me. I hope this new whisky is below the $50 range...

I don't see how it is justified. It may be a "limited edition", but there are twice as many bottled being produced as their Reserve whisky, which was the same price. I can think of a good handful of well-aged Canadian whiskies that sell for less...

Yeah, from an age per price perspective, the price may seem high, I think the justification has to do with the use of 1st fill bourbon casks for a secondary maturation.

Given the quality of the last special release by Forty-Creek, I'll get one of these to try, them make up my mind. I conceed that the price is "fair" by LCBO standards as opposed to being a custemer-friendly price like the Barrel Select...
