FRANKLIN COUNTY, KY, August 19, 2002 – Buffalo Trace Distillery will be hosting the 3rd Annual Celebrity Barrel Rolling Contest this Saturday, August 24. The event, which will raise money for the Hospice of the Bluegrass and the Frankfort YMCA, is sponsored by the World Association of Alcohol Beverage Industries (WAABI), and will be held at 10:30 a.m. on the grounds of the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Franklin County.
The event, which is open to the public, will feature multiple individual and team competitions. Competitors will try to roll barrels from a starting point into a container (called a rick) as quickly as possible, with bonus points added if the barrel lands “bung up” in the rick. The contest will include management-level and wage-level competitors from the Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, Makers’ Mark, and Heaven Hill distilleries, as well as a team made up of local celebrities.
Concessions will be available at the Buffalo Trace Distillery during the competition, and the band Bluegrass Anonymous from Louisville will be holding an open jam session as well. Admission is free, and free parking will be available at the distillery. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or other seating for a comfortable view of the festivities.
