Dusty Eagle Rare 10 Year Old 101 Proof Find

After being a good boy on Thanksgiving I went forth the next day to find some dusty old bottles in areas I had not yet explored. I found this group of older Eagle Rare 101 Proof in a little liquor store with a pretty Russian clerk. As a side note I found the following UPC code stickers on the bottom of the bottles. I wonder if these might have been something added by the retailer or by the manufacturer. What can I expect from the contents of these bottles? I like the current Eagle Rare quite a bit so I am hoping these are at least as good as the current product if not better.

That's one hell of a find. The UPC code on my bottles of ER101 and ERSB is 88004. The bar code on your bottles may have been for inventory control.

They are head and shoulders above the current Eagle Rare Single Barrel and I'd say even the Eagle Rare from the BTAC.
Both of which I don't care for, they are just to bland for me.

The 750ml bottle with the dark cap and the 2 1 liter bottles with the light cap are bottled in New Orleans, right?
And the 750ml with the light cap is a Frankfort, right?

The New Orleans bottles I have given the nickname of Baby Stagg.
They taste like George T Stagg cut down to 101 proof.
So I'd say you did good.

Well done! You may not have hunted Turkeys, but you definitely nabbed another worthy bird.

Y'all have me psyched to break into one of these bottles to sample it out. I do think I got lucky and was able to stumble into a nice bargain with these. Thanks to the happy fellows of this site I have been able to stumble into quite a few dusty old bargains these last few months.

Those are great finds....well done. I have 7 or so bottles of the Eagle Rare, mostly from New Orleans that range in dates from '91 to '02. If you peel the sticker off the bottom off one of those bottles, you can check for the 2 digit bottling date to determine the distillation year. From the labels, it appears the two squats are Frankfort and the 1 liter's are New Orleans?

Hey Greg, (or anyone else with an answer)
I have a few ER101's. I have 1 from 1999 and it has the dark cap and is from Frankfort.

When did the bottling go from New Orleans to Frankfort?

That's a fantastic find. The 101 is head and shoulders above the current ERSB10 (90 proof). I was fortunate enough to have been gifted a pint of this wonderful stuff awhile back by a kind and generous forumite and my heart still pines away in vain for more of this beautiful whiskey.

We gotta start leaning on BT to start producing this again, it really is fantastic.

Congrats on your find! You must open one and taste it.

Cheers!

Hey Luna56 I hear you loud and clear.
If you want some ER101, then get some GTStagg and water it down.
Taste the same to me.
