Re: Dusty Eagle Rare 10 Year Old 101 Proof Find

I will also, through in for your information...

Before Seagrams sold their labels to Saz....they had asked Ancient Age to make them bourbon (1988). That bourbon was never actually sold to Seagrams because they got out of the bourbon industy. The juice that AA made for them was eventually labeled as the first Eagle Rare 15.

Re: Dusty Eagle Rare 10 Year Old 101 Proof Find

I just came across two 375ml bottles of the Eagle Rare 101 for $12.99 each about half an hour ago, but because I didn't know what I was looking at I decided to come home and research it on SB. Now it looks like I'm gonna have to hot-foot it back to the liquor store and grab them. Can anyone tell me what the typical price of the 750ml bottle goes for? BTW, I did snag a slope-shouldered OCPR while I was there, and though I know I paid a few bucks too much for it ($39) I couldn't resist. I love that stuff!

Re: Dusty Eagle Rare 10 Year Old 101 Proof Find

Sorry to say you made the wrong choice...Uncle. A 750ml/2 at 10/101 for $25 is much better than a 750ml of 13/90 at $39. You will start to figure this out better as you get used to dusty hunting. Good thing is...you can probably fix your mistake rather quickly. Get to that store and hook yourself up with a treat. You are going to enjoy both pours immensly. Good job!

Oh yeah, a ER 10/101 usually goes around $20-25

I don't know if you can call it the "wrong" choice, IMO. If it were me, I would have taken the OCPR first, as well. Particularly, since it's of the slope sholder variety. You do well with either, Uncle. But, Jeff's made an excellent point...Go back and get those other 2 ER's!!
BTW, I don't think I've ever seen a 375 of the ER 101. Post some pics if you get a chance?

Re: Dusty Eagle Rare 10 Year Old 101 Proof Find

I guess I am more interested in the Eagle Rare because they disappear so fast, here. The OCPR on the otherhand is still around in some quantity.

My comments on choices and how to evaluate bottles....would go like this. Price, proof and age. So, if price and proof are right...that bottle is coming home. If the price is a little high...then it better have proof and age, to be a winner in my book.

The Eagle Rare had the price and proof....therefor, my first choice. If those were the only two labels at the store that I liked...then they would both come home. Which, btw, is the correct answere...get them both. Yum yum, your taste buds will thank you later.

Great hunting.

Well, I went back and snagged those two bottles of ER 101. As I was standing at the checkout counter, my four year old son, Oliver, ran behind the counter to get a pretzel stick from the store owner and while munching his treat said, "Look Daddy. There's more of those whiskies." Sure enough, he was right! On the shelf in amongst all the other pint bottles were another five 375ml bottles of Eagle Rare 10/101. Shazam, the kid's got the dusty hunting thing down! The owner then mentioned that he had another dozen or so bottles in the storage room. I couldn't get them all but did purchase seven for $11.99 each. I also noticed that the box he brought out from storage had a 1984 date stamped on the side of it. Who made that juice then? Will post pictures for you ASAP. I should add that the guy also had a bottle of Very Special Old Fitzgerald (BHC) for $28 but I had to leave it behind, as I value my life and doubted I could explain all these acquisitions to my wife in a satisfactory manner.

Unclebunk,

You found yourself a little honey pot. Good deal. IMHO, all those mention in your post are good pours at good prices. I'd gladly take them all.

Open an ER101 and if you love it, make some return trips.

Will

Reading how your son found the pot of gold....brought a tear to my eye.

That's fantastic and a great feeling to come across treats such as those. Nicely done......a little jealous here in VA.

Indeed!! That's a really cool story. You'll need to set loose the little one in more stores, to find more of the good stuff. He's got a good sniffer!
