Gallon Thread

Ending the Year with a Fitz (G Style)...

What a way to make a day .. and even a year. We were heading home from the end of our camping trip and I stopped into a little liquor store… I walked in to see the bourbon and looked up at the decorations and WOW… a bunch of gallon bottles… I reached up to see if the Old Fitz was real and full and .. Giddy-up. The owner quickly said “that is not for sale” as I held it in my hand…

I then looked at the juice for a while and talked with the guy… I asked him if he would sale it and after some friendly chit-chat he did… Take a look at this puppy

1GOFitz.JPG

The other bottles were Canadian, Scotch, Gin, Vodka and other juice I would not drink…

The bottle is tax stamped Fall 71 - Spring 78.

So who else has Gallon bottles? What do you Have in them?

I have a couple other Gallon bottles I have picked up empty and restored that I will post later…

Re: Gallon Thread

It's amazing what you will find in those off the beaten path liquor stores.

Re: Gallon Thread

If that bottle is too dusty for you, I'd gladly take it off your hands.

If I may ask, what did that lovely bottle cost?
I've only seen oone whiskey gallon while hunting...it was OGD and the price was $130. I passed as I'm not the biggest OGD fan. If it was Old Fitz, she would have made the trip home with me.

NICE FIND!! You'll definitely have a Happy New Year!

Re: Gallon Thread

Em,

I have a bottle like that. There's no info on the tax strip. I figured it's 70's era since there's no UPC and no Gov't warning. I can't remember if it has the two digit date on the bottom. I'll have to check. All I know is the juice is uber dark and I'm sure deeeelicous.

Re: Gallon Thread

I've seen a few of the Old Fitz gallons in the swinging rack (which facilitates pouring). When I've seen them, the store owners wanted anywhere from $350 to $600. I always passed because the whiskey looked a little suspect. But several SB'ers have one.

I have an Old Crow 86 proof in the swinging rack and a pristine Canadian Club that came boxed with a hand pump to serve with. Both are from the '60's.

Re: Gallon Thread

If the 1.75 is the family size bottle, what's the gallon?
