Prohibition era bottles
I received a "what is it worth?" question from a friend of a friend about a prohibition era medicinal whiskey bottle. I gave some standard answers:
There's not an active secondary market and it's worth is only what someone will give you; the whiskey inside is likely unaltered, but that doesn't mean it is appealing to today's whiskey drinker; etc. But I also went to google to see what else I could find, and found some neat stuff on the collectibility of pre-prohibition bottles, and the collectibility of immediate post-prohibition bottles. (Who knew? Not me.) It got me wondering... why wasn't I finding anything about prohibition era bottles? Are they too common? Is there a lack of brand identity that makes them boring? Are they just not as much fun as the small Western distilleries that went out of production? What gives? |
