Mark Vaughan is editor and publisher of Santé, The Magazine of Wine and Spirits Management, a publication dedicated to increasing on-premise sales of wines and spirits by providing information and management advice pertinent to operating a successful beverage program.
Prior to founding Santé, Mr. Vaughan managed his own successful editorial consulting firm. Among his clients were The Economist Group, International Business Magazine and M. Shanken Communications. For The Economist Group, he managed the publication of a series of book-length special reports on a variety of international business topics. For International Business Magazine, he developed and managed a special 12-page advertorial department, which appeared on a monthly basis and was a cornerstone of the magazine's advertising sales strategy. At M. Shanken, Mr. Vaughan developed several high-revenue-generating magazine supplements, including the 84-page Cigar Dinner Event Planner and the 25-page Wine Spectator's Wine-Tasting Dinner Party Guide. Mr. Vaughan has experience in both print and broadcast media and has held full-time staff positions with several major media firms. These include senior editor and analyst for Latin America with the Economist Group's Business International Corporation; senior editor with the Foreign Policy Association; associate producer with CBS Reports; Latin America analyst for International Reports (a Financial Times subsidiary); assignment editor for the Cable News Network; and editorial assistant at Newsweek magazine. Mr. Vaughan is well known for his work as a wine journalist and lifestyle writer. He has published over 100 articles on wine, spirits and related topics. He is a regular contributor to such prestigious beverage, food and lifestyle periodicals as Cigar Aficionado, Food Arts, Market Watch and Wine Spectator magazines. He has written extensively on restaurant beverage management issues and has developed ties with restaurateurs throughout the U.S. He has also written about every major spirits and winemaking region and has strong connections with wine and spirits producers, exporters, importers and distributors in Europe, South America, Australia and the United States. Mr. Vaughan was raised near Napa Valley, California. He holds a Master of Arts degree in International Affairs and Journalism from Columbia University, a Master of Arts in Spanish and Latin American Literature from the State University of New York at Albany, a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Bennington College and a Certificate in Translation and Interpretation from the University of Granada, Spain. He performed his military service in the U.S. Marine Corps and is a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. Formerly a resident of New York City, Mr. Vaughan now resides in upstate New York with his wife and daughter. |
