What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

I was at a work function right next door to this place the other day and was completely oblivious that this new location existed.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

Picked up some fun bottles at Total Wine last night: JD SBBP JD SBBP rye Whistle Pig store pick, 10 yr, 114 proof for under $90 Templeton 10 yr Single Barrell Rye Tried the JD rye so far. You can taste and feel the proof but there are a lot of other flavors there as well. I always get that banana candy flavor in JD. I really had to search for it in this one. It's there but very faint and covered up by other flavors.
  4. Rebel (used to be called Rebel Yell) is a brand owned by Luxco. For a long time, that brand was sourced whiskey - wheat mash bill Bourbon from Heaven Hill a.k.a. Old Fitzgerald. Luxco has been distilling its' own make for a while. I don't know if that has impacted any of their brands yet. Old Bardstown B.I.B. is one of the first regular products to come from Willett since they switched over to distilling their own.
  5. A couple of pours of MM last night.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

The wife made a trip to Louisville with family to help out with 2yo granddaughter. They brought back a few bottles. I had some input on the 4R, Willet Rye and McKenna via text, but no input on the others. I have no familiarity with Rebel. I think I've seen Old Bardstown on shelves but have never tried it. Can anyone shed some light on Rebel, or OB bib?
  7. Nothing, Yet... Gave up bourbon for Lent; also SB since it brings on the desire. I think I'll crack a Blanton's Gold for Easter. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, can't wait... Cheers All!!!
  8. Joined for a pour of the same (wonder how I got that bottle), really good stuff indeed!

Good idea! Whiskey was made for DRINKING! Let it experience it's ultimate purpose in life ...by going down your throat. HA!

    Bourbon Hunting

A wise man here once said ,”Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.” That man is whiskey writer and historian “Colonel” Chuck Cowdery. Don’t go overboard in a rush to try anything and everything. Check old threads here. There’s a wealth of information. Look at reviews. Ask questions. My information would be to make a list. Check out the main or namesake bourbons from the heritage distillers first. Get a feel for that, then move on to other distilleries and their bourbons and ryes. Below is a list. Mind you, this list is just a jumping off point. Another suggestion would be to make a list, then check out bars to see if they have a decent selection of bourbons. Basically try before you buy. Have fun, and good luck. Barton-1792 Small Batch, Very Old Barton Bottled In Bond Buffalo Trace-Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare Four Roses-Four Roses (Yellow Label), Four Roses Single Barrel Jim Beam-Jim Beam, Knob Creek Heaven Hill-Elijah Craig, Evan Williams Bottled In Bond Maker’s Mark-Maker’s Mark, Maker’s Mark 101 Wild Turkey-Wild Turkey 80 proof, Wild Turkey 101 proof

I don’t think I will sale it. I think I will know when the time is right to open it. Thanks to all of you for your responses. At one time I did look at it and think I’m going to drink that. Lol.
  14. This is one bit of information that my waistline did not need to know. Luckily, in Texas I still cannot have WT101 Rye shipped to me. Otherwise, why would I ever leave my house?
  15. That makes sense. They only recently have come online so their quantity is growing.
  16. I just ordered two more packages of those cookies. Nice that they will just ship to your house now.
  17. Rickhouse Proof expressions have been chased for awhile. But I think (hopefully) most of the locusts must have acquired their desired standard expressions in their bunker, because it is now available at several outlets, as are the Bonded offerings.
  18. Well interesting. Are the locusts buying up everything Holladay or just the special releases?

I don't think you should sell it. That's a really lame thing to do. (Unless you really need the money because of this crappy economy we've been experiencing the last 3 years.) Unless you really need the money, I would open it and enjoy this special bottle slowly over several years. Just my 2 cents.
  20. Sorry Steve but you're too late. The Texas Facebook bourbon tater "locusts" have already ruined this one. Btw, the most annoying taters of all exist on local Facebook bourbon groups. I mean the most annoying taters ... you know the type: discovered bourbon literally 12 months ago (or even less) and they bought this bottle online within 30 minutes of its release, resulting in it instantly selling out. Yeesh.

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

Good reporting. I'm also a big fan of RY10 and MM101. In fact when I finish my current open bottle of MM101 I think I'll replace its space on the shelf with a RY10 from my bunker.
  22. Nice pickups, interested in how that one tastes, let us know.

Not mine. I was helping a fellow member out. I was repaying a favor he did for me. He just had to have the last word though. I received a very nice cured ham for Xmas that year.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

A friend and I have found five of these 2022 BPs (between us)this month at the same place. Wonder if the store found a case of them in the back. I’ll take my two and not ask any further questions..
  25. after dealing with some headaches after work I decided to go straight to the heavy hitter proof to calm the stress.
  26. sb.com pick? Or GBS and I tag along? You would love these guys. First night we are at the hotel bar and one of the guys brings me a bourbon (Holladay of course) and then sets down a Coors next to it. "What's this?" I ask. "It's a side drink. Everybody needs a side drink." And from that point on I had a Coors next to my bourbon at all times.
