  2. I couldn't help it, the FOMO got me and I broke down and bought the Booker's today. Good news was that the Costco checker said, "Oh, I've been waiting for that" which led to us talking about bourbon, and I invited him to the West Coast Whiskey Club bottle share party this Saturday.
  3. It was an online purchase.

Grandpa, Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days

I have two of them, so I opened 1…and took a few sips. Not dead!!
  7. So have those experienced the same price creep adjustment as the OWA.

Grandpa, Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days

One of the highlights of my bar is a classic Old Crow decanter, with a crow in top hat and tails. It's the same one that @smokinjoehas. It remains sealed, with a tax stamp fully affixed. Should I break the seal and drink it?
  9. I bought a Booker's at the distillery for around your price last Fall. I love KC 12 and it's around $80 in my area, so I buy would buy that. And Bourbon Gods forgive me, I bought Stagg this year for $190. I hadn't tasted it since Batch 14, and I just couldn't stop myself!
  10. Stopped in a store (actually a gas station) that I hadn't been in in a while. They always had decent availability and prices were generally fair. Allocated stuff was maybe 5 to 10 $ over msrp and everything was on the shelf. I knew things were different when I immediately saw the BT trifecta of ER10, CEHTSMB, and Blanton's high on a shelf behind the counter. I think they have now set a new record for local prices...149, 199, and 249 respectively!

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

I dont think they changed it recently.. may just be the sun comin thru the glass. But yeah the Elmers hit town with a vengeance today. Was happy to be off work on the right day.
  12. Have not seen one of those in a long time. It appears they have changed the label.

    Cocktail Hour! - 2024

I am old and I don't drink very often, anymore. We even went on a resort vacation a week back, and I had only one beer the whole trip. But today, I was thirsty and my stomach was willing, so I had a double shot of Mt Gay Eclipse rum with lime juice and a lot of ice. It was very satisfying.
  16. Back to the SFTB 131.6. I do soooo like those. Only 5 more days of bourbon & rye. Then on a cruise for 2 weeks (bargain, NYC to Southampton with parents & daughter). I don't like their selection and won't pay what they are charging. Then a week in London and another in Burgos/Madrid. I tend to drink wine on those trips, though I could see some Scotch or Irish in London. Or beer. Oh yes, beer. Family members in Spain have been growing wine for centuries. They have an "illegal" vineyard. They make phenomenal wine (one has a PHD in oenology and a "legal" commercial vineyard). So the "illegal" stuff cannot be sold but is freely shared with friends & family, bless them. Aranda del Duero region. They even have private tunnels in the hillsides were wine was stored in the days before AC. Literal man caves. Gnarly.

    On line buying

I imagine it's pretty hard for the authorities to prosecute a business in another state. And, I don't think shipping laws are that strictly enforced in general. I've experienced shippers that have delivered online liquor purchases to my door without getting adult signature as required by law here in CA. In several instances, the box wasn't even labeled as containing alcohol..
  18. Delord 25yr Armagnac is a good intro to that spirit. If you like bourbon, you'll probably enjoy it. It was my gateway Armagnac. Total Wine usually has it..
  19. Fair! Seems to be The Way. I knew an OSU grad would get it right. Not like a Hoosier Mama grad or the like....

Opinions on Total Wine barrel picks?

Never been lucky w total wine picks, except for the 1/2 dozen RRSiB CNF store picks i got several years ago. These are wonderful. I'm down to 2 I think.
  21. Today I saw the new version JB Black (a whole shelf full) and a lonely MM 46 CS. Grocery store makes you buy six bottles at a time to get decent price. I wasn't up for that today. Manager told me they just got in EW Single Barrel after not seeing any for a long time. I told her since they lowered the age on that, it's not too interesting.

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

Well, speaking of Weller and MM, I finished off a couple recently. Smooth bourbon. Pat

  24. Started with a JEP Decanter pour. I really, really enjoyed it this time. I feel like I could review this each time I pour it; not because it's that different each time but because I'm not sure what I am drinking as it is so off profile. Anyway is was quite good. I didn't want to run out too quickly so I needed a follow-up that wouldn't disappoint. OGD114 to the rescue; Lovely!!!
  25. Some Bakers SmB after a morning of errands. Enjoying sitting on the deck with the humming birds buzzing around and the view of an open pool! Ah, life is good.
  26. Was swearing off any pours until Bardstown, but today was one of those days so decided to hell with that. Enjoying a nice pour of some 2014 hazmat WLW. Been nursing this bottle since 2014 (decanted it into a 375 mL several years back, and then a couple years ago into a 200 mL). Just syrupy wheated wonderfulness.
  27. I picked up a bottle of corvousier vsop and I enjoy it. I also grabbed a half bottle of calvados from total wine on a whim because I like Lairds. I have no clue if it's a good expression, but it's unique and interesting to me, and very worth the $18. Any recommendations for a newbie? Either for sipping neat or for mixing in New Orleans style cocktails.
