ORVW 107 tonight. Pretty worthless today, working on 13 hours of either "The Wire" or football on TV. Thanksgiving is Saturday for me. Will bring a couple bottles with me. My family is learning that Jack Daniels/Black Velvet aren't the only whiskey's out there and to be respectful, only mix with water.

No bourbon for me tonight. Visiting the folks up in NY and all i could find in the house was a Jameson Gold Reserve from their recent trip to Ireland. Turned out to be a nice find! Not very challenging, but a very enjoyable pour. Nice caramel followed by a short but strong finish that envelops the whole mouth with espresso. I wouldn't buy a bottle for the price, but I'm glad my parents did!

I've got a bottle that was given to me by a co-worker. By far the bourboniest Irish Whiskey I've ever tasted. I think it's also the only Jameson product that uses new American Oak.

Welcome to the club. Have you tried the 15?

No, I've not tried the 15. In fact, I don't believe I've seen it available, and the 23 year was over my head pricewise. I am very impressed with the 10 year. I mean, I'm not much at describing bourbon. I just know that I love it. I've never tasted anything that quite compares to it. Worth every penny.

Last night, I visited friends for Thanksgiving. They still had some 12 year Elijah Craig that I'd given them, probably last year (it was a magnum and they don't drink that much bourbon). Going without EC 12 for a few months causes me to forget how much I love that bourbon!!!

Going with Julio's OWA from 09 tonight. I have had a couple of these sitting around for a while and hadn't opened one until last night. Nice warm pour for a cold, damp evening.

The recent chatter about the provenance of PVW 15, on another thread, has led to 45ml of this always luscious juice slowly being savored tonight.

I had a few friends over for an introduction of Amrut. After first half (8 different Amruts!) we did a wee vertical of american ryes and bourbons

Old Potrero 2yo 62.2% Malted Rye Whiskey (Anchor)

High West Rendezvous Rye 46%

High West Rye 16yo

Sazerac Rye 18yo 2010 45%

Bitter Truth Rye 69.2% 24yo

AH Hirsch Bourbon 16yo 1974 45.8%

Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon 15yo 53.5%

A very nice set. The rendezvous is really growing on me after the initial chock (its a very different thing when you're used to drink scottish single malts exclusively)

Today I just wish I had more rendezvous

Last night I attended a Wild Turkey tasting at a local store with the following order.

Regular 101

RR 90

Rare Breed

Kentucky Spirit

Tradition

I consider Rare Breed my overall favorite bourbon, but the Tradition was excellent. Sure wish it was in my price range.

Last night I had some great Bourbons and Scotches with TomH and Mrs. TomH, Neo-Texan, Neo-Texan Jr., and another Josh. A great night of whiskey fellowship was had by one and all, including the wife and baby Fred (she was renamed by Dale).

As for the bourbons, I tried some of the Redemption and W.H. Harrison bourbons, and accidentally poured myself a little too much of the Pappy 23 SB.com edition. Ooops. Also had a few parting sips of the stuff that made High West a genuine micro-distiller, their Oat "whiskey". It was really, really tasty. It tasted like the first couple chews of Juicy Fruit Gum. Good stuff.

I've got a pair of Sandhills that show up in my yard once a week and will let me get within a few yards of them. Not sure what they like about my place, but they keep coming back.

As for bourbon, last night I had a tasting with a good friend. She was anxious to learn more about bourbon and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Had a little of each of the following:

ORVW 10/90

Pappy 20

Knob Creek

GTS 09

Well, it's sandhill fever, I guess. I just heard them chortling as they are passing over in droves, this afternoon. And, I'm inside. You always hear them, before you see them. I don't know how many thousand feet up they are when they pass over, but in that I can hear them so clearly, they must be extremely loud. So hard to spot when they're up so high.

CGF WT12 yr to mark the occasion!

A raw sore throat isn't stopping me from enjoying a pour of ORVW 10/107 to celebrate Ohio State's thrashing of M*ch*gan in the 107th meeting of the rivalry.

Yep, watched some of that OSU whuppin', too. Waiting here, for two mediocre teams to pound the crap out of each other...UGA/GT. When two teams are "down", I've come to expect a bruiser of a game in these "big rivalry" games, because this is their bowl game. My money is on the Dawgs.

So, to get started, I just opened a '77 Fairfax County BIB from A. Smith Bowman. Tons of corn, and very thick. They self-describe it as "Heavy Bodied". I agree.

Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout & RittBIB. I like to refer to the Brooklyn as the "BlackOut Stout". It's quite hefty at 10% abv.

The Fairfax County that you brought to the fall festival was the belle of the ball, IMO. Great stuff.

Got any more?

Current OGD 114 in my glass as I sit alone in chat. This is the best deal in bourbon imo. Great bourbon, perfectly aged, high proof, and $21 a bottle. It seems to me that Beam has little reason to keep this label alive and if it's ever discontinued, we will all recall fondly the days when we could find this mid-shelfer on every corner for an hours' wages.

I keep promising myself I'll buy several cases to bunker just for posterity. December might be the right time to make good on that promise.

I agree wholeheartedly. This is one that is always in my home, and a favorite to give as a gift to the stout hearted bourbon drinker (particularly since it's easy to find it boxed). It is one of the great bargains in bourbon, and the ONLY Beam product that reaches my door.

I wish I could find OGD 114 in my neck of the woods. I can only get OGD BiB 100. Ohio sucks for any selection of whisk(e)y.

Ending up the long weekend with Elmer T, tonight. This one always puts me back in the Gazebo.

Not in the right frame of mind to hit the road again tomorrow.

OFBB 2010 tonight. This stuff is disappointing. I keep coming back to the bottle and I keep getting the same thing. Which is a whole lot of nothing. It's easy enough to drink. But the nose is underwhelming and the flavor is kind of flat. It's also mighty dull for being aged more than 10 years. I just don't get much oak out of it at all. I don't think I'll be purchasing a bottle in 2011.

IMO, 114 is best of the line up.

Tonight it's Eagle Rare 10 yr. Maybe the folks talking about inconsistency are right. Picked up a 1.75 and it's not as super great as ER I remember. I'll dig through the bunker but don't think I have ay old ER10 to compare. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and try different stores for different lots to compare.
