I'm with you Fox....I was underwhelmed by the ECBP as well....
go to it a few more times, ya might change mind. sometimes it takes revisits to fully appreciate something. the best music only gets appreciated when heard many times over. but then ECBP is what it is; if ya not into wood then EC is probably never going to be your thing. And EC is bit different than BT or Beam so maybe that's not what you prefer, either.

Now if they ever do a BP EC18!!!

i tried it multiple times for a month. I took it to the KBF and gave it away, so I won't be revisiting it anymore.

Very generous of you.

Very generous of you.

not really. I donated it to the sampling table for others to enjoy or try for the first time, and I also enjoyed to opportunity to try other things I hadn't seen or had before.....like a bourbon potluck.

I'm with you Fox....I was underwhelmed by the ECBP as well. It's tannic, drier than a popcorn fart, and woody as hell. That's 3 strikes to my palate.

That said, I'm willing to give it another shot. I WANT to like it....just had a bad first impression. Maybe the 2nd will be better but I'm not optimistic. I like the sweater, creamier bourbon profiles....not the woody, cottonmouth ones.

Josh, take 2 oz of the 137 proof and add 3/4 tsp of water. DUDE, this is my wheelhouse! I'll take all of it you don't want!! I haven't found the third release yet.

First release is great straight up!

Here is my latest attempt at trying to find an ECBP I can sink my teeth into Dawn.....

A little Elijah Craig Barrel Proof 129.7 to keep me warm on this frigid day!

Nose is all sweet corn and blasts of cinnamon. Seriously, I'm not sure I've ever gotten more cinnamon on a nose than this one. It smells like a damn cinnamon stick. Wow!

Hot, peppery, spicy as f*** entry. Yowza! I should have worn my big boy pants. Damn, this stuff is Stagg-like on the heat-o-meter. Fire water, good Lord! Put out the flames!

A splash of water does indeed tame this fiery beast but just as I feared….mid-palate is turning to wood tannins and dry oak. :(

A really groovy redhots note does shine through the wood fire and tingles the palate.

Finish is woody, woody, and did I mention woody? Not overly dry though so that is a plus. Just woodier than Pinocchio. Good Lord!

Well, strike two for me on ECPB. I'm willing to give it another shot at a different proof but so far no dice.

I agree that it's super woody but not bitter or dry to me. Probably the woodiest bourbon I've ever had. I love the stuff.

I have only tried Batch #2 (137). I really didn't enjoy my first few pours. I found it to be very woody as well. I soon found that I did enjoy it by diluting it with EC12 to bring it down to the 110 to 120 proof range. However, with time and a little air (sorry Mr. Rutledge), I now find it a very enjoying pour neat. It doesn't seem as bitter and woody as it did initially. It has moved from being a bottle that I wasn't sure that I like to one that I look forward to enjoying a pour from. Of course, the pours have to be in moderation.

Just opened a batch 3, and in a blind sbs I found it very similar neat to batch 1 (never had batch 2). But adding some water really stumped me. The batch 1 clouded up as I expected, but batch 3 was still clear as a bell?? Ratios were very close - I even added more water to batch 3, and it never clouded up one bit. With a few drops of water, I leaned towards batch 1 over 3. Curious how this will change with some air time (my batch 1 has been open since I bought it in April, so 8 months vs 8 minutes!)

Batch 1 came and went around here before I was even aware of it ... never saw Batch 2 ... picked up a Batch 3 a week or so ago, so I'm encouraged by Gary's comparison (notwithstanding the issue with whether NCF or not).

FWIW, Jim Murray's 2014 Whisky Bible rates ECBP Batch 1 at a solid 95.5. An entertaining review at that. As I've mentioned before, I love this pour. Got to be in the right "in your grill" mood though.

I haven't seen batch 3 but have seen ECBP as part of the list for the drawing at one of my local stores. I would assume that's batch 3 because the did have batch 2 on the shelves previously. Oh well, guess I'll have to try to find it in other stores.

Just curious - has anyone seen Batch 3 in the Chicagoland area yet? I saw batch 2 three or four months ago and nothing since.

Strictly rumor mill here, but Batch 3 might not reach the Chicago market. On the bright side, there will be more batches here in the future. Hopefully the rumor is wrong and batch 3 pops up on the shelf tomorrow.

If it makes any of you feel any better, I've never seen ANY of it around here. :(

Never seen any around here and if they did carry it they'd have it at $99 or better.

I've not seen any in GA but I did find a bottle of it in Idaho about a month ago when I was there for work.

Thanks very much, I'll keep checking my usual spots. Hopefully we'll see something around spring. I fear my current bottle won't make it until then.

Thanks very much, I'm hoping to see another release in our area by spring. Mostly for fear that my current bottle won't last any longer than that. :)
