Thanks to you all and especially to Jim for making this board a great place.

May we all enjoy the second 20,000 posts as much as we have the first.

Thanks Cliff, last time I really looked, we were somewhere around 14.5K.

I know at least one of you people is going to break out a calculator and add up the totals on the main page and decide that Cliff is somehow mistaken. He's correct about the number of posts however.

Straightbourbon logo golf shirt to the first person who can tell me (correctly) why the numbers don't jibe. One other hitch; you have to be attending the festival, I don't ship lol.gif

Well, as long as I'm up late trudging through Excel spreadsheets, I might

as well...

I get 19,170 posts, if I jockeyed Excel right. That's a difference of ~830.

I'll leave the guessin' up to those who are attending the Fest.

(Just tonight I came across a macro that deletes every other row...

a useful little thing at times, like when the Uv-Vis randomly changes

resolution from 1.0 nm steps the 0.5 nm steps...)

For the curious who want to try it at home:

(I'm using Mozilla... might not work with IE)

Highlight the part of the Main Index page that has the data.

Paste into an empty Excel sheet.

Highlight Column A, then use Data > Text to Columns, and delimit by space.

Ignore the warning message telling you that you'll over-write some data.

Now grab Column B and Sort.

Choose either option that the warning message gives you. Doesn't matter.

You now have the numbers you want on top of Column B. Sum them up.

Okay, it takes twice as long as using a hand calculator, or just typing

the numbers into Excel yourself...

I figured it was deleted posts.

Did you start this in January of '00? That's the date of your first post shown. I joined in August of '00 so I'm in for three years now.

I first brought the forums online in early Septamber 1999. I was of course the first user, but I operated under an name other than "jbutler".

Lew Bryson was the first user to get an account, but he hasn't been around for several years and was taken out in the big purge of 2002. The oldest existing user account is Jeff Frane's (RyeCatcher), followed by Chuck Cowdery.

Hint: the total post count does indeed have something to do with deleted posts, but I'm looking for a more specific answer.

Could it be that the array doesn't re-index, leaving the post count artificially high, even though the content of the posts has been deleted?

Jeff wins, but he cheated. See what levels people are willing to sink to just to get their hands on this stuff?

I'm thinking that if he wants the shirt, I should make him bark like the dog that he is in front of everyone at the gazebo in order to get it lol.gif

I would like that shirt in blue, size medium. I am assuming the seams are double-stitched?

Word has it that Boone is already at work on a tasteful prison blue variant of the StraightBourbon.com standard issue, complete with double-stitched seams and international orange cell block numbers.
