Picked the up off the shelf in a NC ABC store. I was shocked to see it but not so much as to pass it up. $29.95

Well done!

I am looking forward to giving the Old Forester a try

It's one of the sweetest bourbons I've tasted.

I bought one because I liked the handsome bottle. While it is not by any means "bad" I have concluded that the bottle is what I really got. Otherwise, there are far better pours out there for $80. And you might get 2, 3 or 4 bottles of a better pour for that $80. I mean, IWH15 is OK, but nothing special. This is my one venture in the Orphan Barrel arena and it will be my only one.

I have no doubt that what you say is true. I have zero expectations for the whiskey inside. I'm actually interested is using the bottle as a decanter. (And the price is actually cheaper than the nice decanters I've seen out there.) If you have no use for your bottle when empty, I'd be happy to take it off your hands.

My friend picked up a couple bottles of Harper 15 y/o. I haven't tried it yet.

My shop got a dozen bottles, all gone by 7 PM that day. I haven't tried it yet either.

Orphan Barrel Barterhouse

Does anyone know if this is a regular release?

I ask this because the original release (~45,000 bottles?) was in 2014 yet my bottle code is L5104K1001 - suggesting a bottling date of 104th day of 2015.

Nah, I like the bottle too and it is destined for decanter duty on my end as well.

Great minds think alike.

Not all that local since it comes from Indiana...

You are correct, I should have phrased it as a good find at my local liquor store. I'm in the center of West Tennessee, I am closer to the Kentucky distilleries than the folks who bottle that. The next post will show what happens when I go to the bigger town 15 miles away

I dropped by a liquor store in Jackson Tennessee after some doctors appointments and a massage. They had just received a case of WL Weller antique. I left five bottles for some other folks

Yeah I know it's on the high side but I didn't give a shit. Almost impossible to find up here.

the last time I saw ETL it was for $45 and $60... so it looks like that's becoming the norm unfortunately for ETL.

Right, it's a shame. This store is priced a bit higher than some so that didn't help. If I see it elsewhere which I doubt I'm sure it'll be a few dollars less. Anyway it's good whiskey so I'm not complaining.

The WalMart I frequent is going through a shift in their normal offerings and they're clearing out a few things. Hate to see them quit carrying Blanton's and Weller SR, but the close out prices allowed me to pick up 2 fifths of Blanton's @ $40 ea and a handle of WLW SR @ $30

Left 3 bottles of Blanton's on the shelf for the next bourbon fan who passes by.

Thanks for the tip, I honestly collect FAR more than I drink. I'm disabled and medicated for blood clots, bad back and bad cervical fusion. I'm more likely to drink local moonshine, if good, Knob Creek, Belle Meade, and the cheap stuff like the OWA. I make my wife mixed drinks and they can auction the collection or whatever when I go

I think many of us here have the same issue of collecting way more than we drink, I know I do at least, and unfortunately (or fortunately?), without the medical issues to have as an excuse or maybe we do... does Whiskerxia Nervosa count?

I'm around forty + here in West TN. Manager at my local liquor store mentioned a price increase along with allocations

ah makes sense then. I saw it in March and it was at $40. saw it again last month at the same store and it was up to $45.
