Got released from jury duty early so I naturally went to the liquor store because it's in the same neighborhood. I picked up a Basil's for the first time ever. I've had it before so I know what I'm in for, but the real reason I got it is to experiment with vattings with OGDBIB and OGD114. It's not that those need improving. I'm simply experimenting because I can.

Also picked up HMcKBIB because I was out, and CEHTSB because it's been 2 years since I last had one and I though a revisit was in order.

Oh.....and Baker's also. Been a year since I had one of those and I really liked the last bottle. Took me a year to replace it because there's just so damn much good whiskey out there to buy.

The EB 12 yr was $23 + change. Might get it for my birthday present to myself here in a couple weeks.

Edit: my mistake, the real name was Ezra B Single Barrel. Looks like it is indeed HH juice, and a damn good value. Gotta head back there & snag one.

So I went back yesterday for the Ezra B SB. Not surprisingly, it's very similar to EC12, with the most noticable difference being that the Ezra had slightly more alcohol burn. I'd be interested in what someone with a more trained palate for bourbon thinks.

I've really enjoyed the vattings I've made with Basil and the OGDs. I wish Beam would do more with that mash bill.

I knew there was someone here doing that and couldn't remember who it was. It inspired me to give it a shot. I have a 60:40 BH to OGD114 mix in the glass right now and have to say it's pretty dang good right out of the respective bottles.

I picked up a store pick of KC 120 on the way into Bardstown for KBF, just to compare with the barrel we (GBS) picked that weekend.

It was lousy by comparison to the one we picked. Almost no flavor (other than HOT!), and a mediocre nose. It was from TPS in Bellvue.

So, not ALL of the store pix rate as better than ordinary off-the-shelf KC120, which usually is pretty good, certainly better than this one was.

I finally purchased an Eagle Rare 10 today. It is a single barrel select. I cracked it open immediately and it is really good.

They still have 10 years on the back for now.

My question is do they bottle the single barrel select different than the standard bottling now?

Picked up 2 more bottles of Beam Soft Red Wheat today at a Total Wine store. Wonder what's up, had not seen these around for awhile and found one line and then these two. Damn smooth and tasty bourbon that flies under the radar.

When you say single barrel select, do you mean the store that you purchased it from picked and purchased the barrel? if so, then yes, it is truly a single barrel.

For all intensive purposes, the standard bottling is also single barrel but buffalo trace decided to remove that designation due to a new higher capacity bottling line whereby, technically, when filling up bottles, there could be some unintentional mixing of some whiskey into a single bottle. Instead, they took the conservative approach and simply removed the single barrel designation.

While on a business trip to FLattachment.php?attachmentid=21725&stc=1

Nice pick ups and if I'm not mistaken the pattern of the texture on the wall is from a La Quinta Inn. Yes I am a frequent business traveler.

Yes the store bought a barrel.

Yes I knew that they did that as a conservative approach.

What I was asking. If technically the new higher capacity bottling line could mingle a single bottle, do they still use the old bottling line for single barrel to meet the standards?

Either that or they clear the line first.
