^^^^I've never worked in an environment where resistance to ownerships efforts to seek continuous improvement (kaizen) were successful.

I worked in an environment where the Kaizen approach was fostered by a lower level manager, and carried through to the next level with a report (which I co-wrote and co-presented) that seemed well received, and a few of the lowest impact, least likely to be effective suggestions that were developed, were allowed by management to at least be tried.   None were permitted to carry through to conclusion.       I learned later though my membership on another committee that the manager who seemed agreeable and 'allowed' the few projects; had stated that no way would he allow employees who report up through the chain of command under him to do this sort of sh_t again.   He considered it a waste of time, and a threat to his authority.    Gee, I wondered; 'Why would they want to?'   An eye-opening experience, for sure.       I imagine he was 'ordered' to try this by someone higher up (VP?) who had it on a list, and who never really checked into what happened or why.   Too bad.    Some of what we came up with could have made a difference for many, and for many years, maybe.

That's unfortunate Rich.  True Kaizen is integrated throughout an organization from the highest levels, through a mindset of training, principles, and actions that allow true change to come from within (even from the bottom up).

If anyone is looking. I just picked up a bottle in Bardstown at the Kroger.  $125.00

That's nice of you to post, but if anyone is looking for this they are finding it. On shelves near you and in multiples. I've got to believe that Booker is spinning just a bit with the goofy indecisive moves Beam/Suntory is making. Probably proud of the reception his rye got, but also probably shocked at the 86ing of OGD114 , the loss of the age statement on Knob Creek and the silly $100 not $100 announcements on his namesake bourbon.

OGD114 is still just a rumor at this stage

It is beyond that but without a definite end date. Expect enhanced Basil Hayden's packaging and maybe single barrel selects at higher than current prices instead of $25 114.

Yeah, I know.   That's what we were expecting/hoping for.    Too bad; but, knowing now what I came to learn about this particular individual, and indeed about many throughout the entire organization, I shouldn't have been surprised.    This was early on in my career, and I was naive.    I eventually became aware that pettiness and vindictiveness were rewarded in much of the firm.    I think top mgmt. saw those traits as effective, and maybe necessary (or at least useful) to ascend to higher position.     I no longer give a rats booty, being retired now.

+1 Kaizen - The Japanese have been more successful than anyone at continuous improvement across their whole industry, but there are spot examples of other companies and departments that have discovered CI on their own, sometimes without even knowing it.  I've not been to a distillery in a while, but intuition tells me, Jim Beam has been performing the same basic process for hundreds of years, and thru shear time and repetition, I'd think they are fully "LEAN-ed" out, and producing at maximum efficiency.  From what I recall at JD, there wasn't much in the way of labor, most everything was automated that made sense.  Cost of grain, cost of electricity, cost of barrels and bottles, and machine maintenance, some costs for buildings - not a lot of opportunity for unique process improvements, but lots of static activity like waiting for barrels of whiskey to mature.  Not much opportunity to improve when maturation is 99% of the products timeline, and that time in the barrel is a requirement.

What makes a limited edition?  The first three batches were around 36K bottles. If 4 & 5 are similar that's 60K.

To my knowledge "Limited Edition" is defined as any bottle that a manufacturer decides to write "Limited Edition" on, or words to that effect, whether or not there is even a remote indication for doing so!

In other words it has no real meaning. Therefore it is a bit like pornography. You know it when you see it, or in this case perhaps taste it!

Finished the last 2 oz. or so of my single KC 2001 bottle (#12,392, Batch 1).  I will not buy another as long as it is 5 times the price of regular KC, and if regular KC goes up too much, I'll move on.  I loved how its taste reminded me of a thick, charcoal broiled, bone-in sirloin steak without being so tannic it drove me crazy, but not at that price.  Still, I'm glad I had at least one 750 of it.

i wasnt a fan especially for the money.  our local bourbon society did a blind KC tasting with 2 of the 2001s a std single barrel and 7 store picks.  the 2001s didnt make the first cut even

I see where Binny's has 3 different batches on sale for $99.99.  Still not interested.

That's close to the price where I'd give it a try since that's in the range of most of the typical LE's. Still a bit much but it's tempting me.

Yeah, I applaud Binny's for making it available for this price. They marked it down $40. Unfortunately,  I am in Indy so I couldn't run out to get it if I wanted to.

I would love to try it but knowing me, even if it were available locally for $100, I would probably still opt for 2 KCSB PS for $40 each.

You are a smart man. Unfortunately I am not so much. Have a Batch 3 that I picked up "on sale" for $125. It will be gifted probably to a client at some point. Fancy box you know.

As I previously (and duplicatively) posted, I did buy the Batch #1 @ MSRP.  I liked it but at just over 5 times the sale price of KC 9YR basic around here (STILL!!),  I'll gladly pick up 5 basics which I also like and pass on whatever batch is on the shelf.  The 2001 box?  Well, the basic KC boxes are great for holding my BBQ tools (although I don't need any more boxes, so . . .), but the 2001 box was PERFECT for my wireless  Thermoworks "Smoke" BBQ thermometer and the two Thermapens that supplement it.  The bourbon, as I said, isn't bad, either.;)
