about 2010 they had an excellent rye.  I'll try to dig out a bottle to read particulars

It's buried deep in boxes so maybe look a later date.  This might maybe have been the first abraham bowman?  It came out the same time they first released the regular bowman ($25?) and the better bowman ($45?) and then this at $69.95.  I bought all 3 the same week.  Right after they discontinued Fox.  I found where I bought it late October or early November, 2009.  Found stuff on internet that sounds right, maybe 9-10 yo 90 proof.  It is/was super super good, much better than Handy.  Very rich taste with lots of nuanced flavors.

Yes the Rye was the first Abraham that was released 9 years and 90 proof.  I'll look at my bottles and update the list later today

Thanks for the info, VAGentleman! Much appreciated.

They did two different Port Finished releases? I had one of them recently at a bar in Roanoke and I was surprised to see it was the Port Finished. I didn't notice an age, but it was 100 proof, so I assumed it was release #4, but maybe it was release #7.

Either way it was very nice.

Yep two different port finishes.  The first one had the hand written label in dark ink, similar to the picture above of the Rye.  The newer one had typed print in thin letters

They also had dates on it like the rye above that clearly distinguished the 8yo from the 12yo.. My recollection is that they were two different batches of whiskey as the start date for one was not the same for the other. The 12, which was released about a year after the 8 in 2013, was started 3 years before the 8.

Correct the first was distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2012.  The second distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2013

That was/is some of the best Rye I've ever had.  I'm assuming thats from one of the two TPS Single Barrels PS?  Those are the only ones I'm aware of

Here is the other TPS bottled the day before and absolutely on some of the best rye.  It's my longest opened bottle and haven't been able to bring myself to make it an empty one.

Back in 2010 when I realized my favorite rye ever was a one-of-a-kind limited release, I ran to every nearby Virginia ABC and gathered 15 bottles.  I'm down to 9 of the rye now.  But somehow I got a 2009-release 11-year Abraham Bowman rye in the mix?

I'm not sure when they started the AB "project", but when I had the chance to spend a day with Truman Cox (GRHS), I got the impression that even the 2009 may not be the first.

#14 is the Wheat Bourbon

Anyone taste this?  I snagged a bottle in the VABC lottery (thank god for nice, flexible coworkers in Virginia that will go buy this stuff for me).  Haven't looked at it closely yet.  Need to open soon.  I didn't like the coffee (not a coffee fan but those who liked it LOVED it), vanilla bean was meh, I thought Touriga & Merlot Wine was very good not overly sweet/winey, don't think I've tried high rye yet.

Last time I was at the distillery I had missed the gingerbread cocoa beer one by a few days.  They said that the distillery allocation sold out in under an hour the morning it was released at limit 1 per customer (used to be limit 2 on the 375ml bottles).  They said some went to distribution but not many.  I haven't seen or heard of it in any stores, VABC or otherwise.

The gingerbread cocoa finish was also a lottery item on VA ABC. I opted not to drive down to the distillery that Saturday and take my chances with the lottery. Unfortunately I missed out. Life goes on.

Damn I must've missed that lottery.  Although I don't think I'm fond of the weird finishes most of the time, I like to try and make that determination.

These have gotten even harder to find locally and a bit like PHC are seemingly getting more expensive with every release. I have stopped looking and would likely only consider if it fell in my lap and I could try it first (which seems unlikely!). Didn't care that much for the gingerbread finish last time so not really looking for it this time.
