What rum are you drinking today?

IOFTD was the low point of the night. In the category I prefer Smith & Cross by a wide margin. This bottle may finally "inspire" me to make tiki cocktails at home.

To be fair to OFTD, it is not blended to be a sipper. It is blended for use in cocktails where overproof dark rum floats are called for. And in the category for which it was designed, it excels.

I think I have a bottle of that, but I still haven’t opened it. How is it?

Quite nice—  I wish that I had more from Fiji, it has a mind of its own.

Found a healthy dose of Mount Gay XO sample from times long forgotten. Going back in these forums this is the 3rd time I'm finding a MG sample in the stash, and I have no idea how that happened. Probably stashed away from every bottle I bought without realizing it.

The rhum agricole is interesting but to young. Blending equal parts with Doorly 12 makes for a very nice blend.

The Doorlys while only 80 proof is very good and less than $30 at Total Wine.

I next need to find some Hampden.

Yeah revisited the Doorly’s it’s really muted by the low proof. I wish I could get this at cask strength or even 100 to 90 proof and at a close to similar price.

I'm guessing one of the younger folks here at ~35 :) But CRS member with good standing since 20. I blame my 3 hour/day sleep routine.

After 12 hour shifts at work back to back since Monday, kicking back with two pours tonight: FS Criterion and 2005.

The other option would be the Limited release Real McCoys which are all IIRC over 90 proof, in some areas they are easier to find.

Oh yeah I have the 2007 behind this on the shelf. I guess I wish I could get a higher proof at like 50% more costs and not 250%.

Better yet it looks like a place in Houston has it, this may just be a WSpro result but might be worth calling this place:
Houston Wine Merchant
2646 South Shepherd Drive,
Houston,
TX 77098

Smith and Cross is around in Houston; I've bought it before and know I've seen at a store recently just can't recall where.  Have you tried Stolen Rum is the 375ml bottle?  6 year Hampden for $18 and some of the Total Wine have is stock.  But once it's gone, there is no more of it.

Thanks to you guys and everyone on this great site. Finally made to Houston Wine Merchants. This stuff while it does taste a tad bit young is great, has some really great funk. Hampden at a slightly higher age is next on my rum buy list.

If you can find one of these, it will certainly do the trick. This was the first rum that made me use foul language-- having a pour now and it still does.

Cheap and well-proofed, but it seems to have picked up a bit of sweetness along the way. Bottle shattered shortly after this photo, but I was able to save about half.

Somewhat mysterious DR bottle with cigar and NBA ties and a light 40% ABV. However, it’s damn enjoyable as a starter with dinner.

Rather looks like the Kirk & Sweeney bottles which were from Bermudez in the DR? No age statement? What is the price point compared to the K&S?

I rather suspect I can get by with K&S, not that I am buying much of the “ Spanish” style runs these days anyway!

Yup-- same bottle as Kirk & Sweetened, but a completely different liquid. I tasted it this morning against K&S, Bacco 12, Brugal 1888 and it stands apart. Barceló seems to be the source, but I don't have any of their official products. Online sources claim it's aged 8 years in virgin American Oak followed by a two year finishing period in ex-Sherry casks.

It was actually a 2005 and it’s been consumed. I guess Real McCoy 12 might be what I’m looking for.

Edit: okay, I give up. Touch screen was a mistake.

Summary: Plantation OFTD followed by Criterion.

I keep going back to this as you can tell from the fill level in just over a month. And 1pm isn't day drinking if you wake up at 3am.

Classy night tonight, cuba libre with KL dark navy strength. I still contend it's one of the best buys in rum.

Another one of these Grander rums— this one NAS and finished in ex-Rye barrels. The spice does a grand job balancing the sweetness and the 50% ABV is a plus.

Started with some bourbon earlier, then I had a hankering for some rum. Pulled out a Diplomatico 2002. This is a very easy drinking rum, I just wish it was higher proof.

Wondering if anyone has any info on this Rum, E. Leon Jimenes. “The Mail Man” Karl Malone is going to be at a local LS in Lake Charles on the 21st signing bottles. Just wondering if it’s good rum.
