Last night after a long week that I thought was over until this morning I treated myself to a small pours of the following

PVW20 - good but of course it was "oaky"

PVW15 - very good

OWA - very good as well, now maybe it was due to the two pours earlier but I thought there was little difference in the PVW15 and the OWA and due to that I had several pours of it :)

And I solidified plans to visit family in Bardstown toward the end of KBF week - nice to have family...  Getting tickets to Bourbon, Cigars, & Jazz and possibly the Sampler but since we are driving in on the day of the Sampler we may not make it.

Awesome!!  If you have a chance, you should definitely stop by the General Nelson (either the Gazebo, or just look for the SB or GBS flags with idiots sitting around in front of their rooms).  Depending where in B'town, walking might be recommended :)

Blargh quote system

Having a pour of 2013 Michter's 10 single barrel.  This is a bourbon I could literally have  bought a dozen of if I'd wanted--and a mere 2.5 years ago.  I even found it on clearance at around $60 at one store, which finally roped me in.  Now later editions are on shelves for $150-$300.  And to think, a number of old timers will read this post and laugh about how they let BTAC and Van Winkle stock rot on shelves for years.  This boom.  A really good thing for American Spirits, but it's heck on Trophy Hunters and those of us who enjoy a good deal on something a little different.

This edition is rumored to be at least 14 years old, and has a nice buttery oakiness that I have tasted in well aged older bourbons.  I have remarked before that it has a room-filling nose, though the palate falls a bit short of that.  The finish in particular is a bit watery tonight, but the overall package is still great.

image.jpegHaving some Barrell Bourbon batch 5. This is a very good bourbon. Taste a lot like GD9y, but a lot more balanced, and flavor.

There's a good reason for that.

Nice, I'm having the same, but a 10yo version at 120.6 proof.

Just poured some SAOS 10 year Slady's Select Single Barrel selection from the Annapolis Whiskey Society. It's 117.4 proof from barrel 2825. It's quite nice.

Very nice!  Really wish I had access to some of the AWS select bottles.  I've heard they're top notch.

Switched off to some SA Contradiction for my next pour.  Trying to drown the sorrows of a Tar Heel loss to the Dawgs.  At least my alma mater, JMU beat the snot out of Morehead, 80-7!

Fractured my thumb replacing front brake pads on my daughters car this morning so I've been fairly deep into the bourbon on the month RRSB this afternoon and evening.  Not bad but you absolutely know it's there... the thumb not the bourbon - of course you know the bourbon is there... maybe more than I thought

I generally work through an open bottle or two before opening something else up.  This weekend has been a little bit of a change.  I started out with a little Blanton's last night followed by MM PS.  Tonight, I opted for KCSB.  A little variety is nice sometimes.

This holiday weekend I had some nice pours of BT, ER10, JDSBBP & SAOSSB 10. I also had some after dinner JB Honey...needless to say I am enjoying the last days of Summer.

A really hefty pour of a store pick (Pearson's) of Blanton's.  I've waited all day for this.

Why I waited - Eric Clapton is on TV tonight.

Ouch, I have broken many bones in my day, and I can say that the thumb is not fun.  There are a lot of nerves around the area, I'll have a drink  in your honor.  If anybody is wondering, I have broken a leg, arm, collar bone and fractured bones in both hands.  Alcohol was involved once...
