Spring has sprung, gents! I haven't fully transitioned to warmer weather brews yet since I expect several more months of cool weather here in SF. Last night I broke open this Vanilla variation of B.A.R.T (Barrel Aged Really Tasty) from FiftyFifty Brewing in Truckee, CA. I think I bought this at a beer tasting in 2014 so it has been resting for a few years. I can't recall what this tasted like then besides that it was good but it's tasting excellent now - bold, chocolatey, not at all boozy despite the 12% ABV. I was afraid the vanilla would be too pronounced but it was a nice accent to the other flavors, not really distinguishable from vanilla gained from barrel aging alone (i.e. without vanilla beans). I wish I had another of this Vanilla variant but I do have a bottle of the regular BART that I bought around the same time so I'm looking forward to opening that at some point.

After a long day of running errands this Pasteur Street Brewing Passionfruit Wheat is hitting the spot. I don’t usually like wheat beers but this one has tons of passion fruit flavor so it all good by me. I love me some passion fruit.

We actually went to Pasteur Street Brewery in Saigon when we were there about a month ago and I didn’t realize that their beers are imported into the US. All their beers were pretty decent but the passion fruit wheat was our favorite, so I’m glad I have ready access to it. It seemed more sour at the brewery but maybe it was fresher there. It’s still good though.

The KBS seemed a little lighter in flavor than last years.  The BL Orange is surprisingly tasty.  It will make a great summer beer. Too bad it is icing and snowing out today.

I’ll have to try that BL Orange the next time there’s a heat wave. The Lime version is pretty tasty on a hot day as well.

I had this IPA from New World Ales in San Jose. Not bad, but more tame and less fruity than I had hoped.

It’s Master’s Week, so I thought I’d work in a gratuitous shot of one of our azaleas with my 5:00 beer...the local Red Hare Brewing Soft j Juicy IPA.  Nice light grapefruit and very drinkable.  A little too light on the finish, but altogether enjoyable.

My first stout in a while, CS  double chocolate stout. It’s good, definitely has a chocolate taste. Not to heavy.

Henhouse Frozen Envelope. More on the danky side of things but with just a bit of fruitiness to balance things out. Pretty tasty.

2017 Firestone-Walker Parabola. It’s been a while since I’ve had a Parabola but the chocolate and dark, caramelized fruit flavors are familiar. I also like the 12oz format they started last year since it means I can drink a bottle on my own.

Opened a 2015 Abyss today, it was ok a few years ago, and I bought an extra to see what time would do to it.... well nothing, it’s just ok still. Glad I didn’t bunker anymore.

2015 Lagunitas High West-ified Imperial Coffee Stout. Not as robust as some other barrel-aged imperial stouts but still flavorful and very drinkable. Pairs well with beef kidney!

Found a couple Velvet Merkin tonight. Actually found a case but only bought two. Had one with dinner.  Is it bad form to drink it in a GI glass? :) Passed on a bunch of Stickee Monkee. I missed out on Parabola but there might be one with my name on it.

Settling into the chaise to listen to the Braves on the radio with SweetWater’s Side project “Dank Tank” offering, Ground Score IPA.  It’s just OK, but I’m just glad I’m here in my back yard, and not in the Arctic Confines of Wrigley Field today...37 degrees with 30 mph North winds.  Makes me shiver just thinking about it.

At dinner tonight I had two pints of Barebottle Brewing’s “The Secret Truth of the Universe”, a NE IPA. It tasted really fresh and fruity, nice citrus and almost tropical fruit notes. Definitely up there with some of the IPAs from Fieldwork, another great local brewery.

This Fifty Fifty Eclipse from 2015 (the gold wax is the Grand Cru) was really delicious. In addition to the usual chocolatey stout notes, there were dark dried fruit and molasses flavors. I’m gonna have to pull some of the other Eclipse variants out of the cellar and see if they can live up to this one. I’ve had many of them over the years but haven’t had many recently.

I'm a sucker for IPAs so I bought this. Didn't notice the low ibu til I got home. Not a bad beer but I prefer more bitterness.

Anchor Steam tonight, which is a favorite.

Also have a bottle of Firestone 'sucaba' (abacus backwards) in the fridge but that won't be opened for a day or two. I found a picture of it before the name change. Apparently they changed "Abacus" to "Sucaba" for legal reasons if I remember what the back of the box says.

First time picking up this variation of The Temptress, but it might be my new favorite of the Temptress seasonal releases.56c281f0172667648f661992e0d4bac9.jpg

This Liquid Grove from New Glory Brewing in Sacramento was ok. Some citrus but fairly bland overall. Maybe the cider I drank earlier dulled my taste buds.

Having a milf tonight. That's about the only time I can say that and get away with it.

Wow...this one is...interesting.  A little too heavy on the wine. Super heavy. It's like a shot of cab got poured in my stout.

Having a very good stout tonight. Don’t know much about it, but I wish I had gotten a few more. It’s from 2015.
