They very well may be private label brands for some retailer, in which case they don’t need to be different or special (see Total Wine’s Two Stars product).

Agree this is the most likely case

[*  *  *  *  *  and a BUNCH of LE/Specials/one-offs, etc., which I deleted to save bandwidth]

Is it just me, OR are the major bourbon houses going the way of "Scotch" and just making stuff up so we'll buy weird stuff?  I mean, CEHT Tornado I can see (having tasted it), but how different is it from basic CEHT?  IMHO -indistinguishable.  Worth twice the price of CEHT SmB?  Not to me.  Uncle Nearest's intro offers, and its back story (which, like the back story of the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", was "mostly true") were OK.  This new stuff?  Pass, everybody, and let's go back to the bottom shelf to recalibrate our palates.

ASIDE - Is it just the Fall Season and consequent change in body chemistry that has me getting picky or has something (like a new Black Hole) opened on the Astral Plane and tilted our Galaxy in such manner as to cause this ennui?  In other words, I feel slightly out of sorts.  SEE - the next ASIDE.

THE NEXT ASIDE - Out of sorts?  THEN, it's time for a refill.  After that, as Samuel Pepys wrote, "And so to bed."

Not the most exciting week for filings but here goes:

A 5 Year old BIB Rye from Thistle Finch  in Lancaster, PA

https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/viewColaDetails.do?action=publicFormDisplay&ttbid=19309001000273

A 4 Year old Straight Rye from Newburgh, NY

https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/viewColaDetails.do?action=publicFormDisplay&ttbid=19284001000701

I seem to remember this being some sort of vanity label for someone and younger whiskey but regardless a Straight NAS MGP Rye

https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/viewColaDetails.do?action=publicFormDisplay&ttbid=19303001000574

And as fast as this was approved it was surrendered had a feeling that the Schenley name on that was going to be an issue:

Holy History, Batman!  I LIVED THERE!!  Newburgh, that is.

In the mid-1950s, my Dad (a Navy person) was stationed at Stewart AFB near Newburgh as part of the "Eastern Air Defense Force".  As such, I was a Navy brat going to school, and socializing with, Air Force children.  It was life-changing.

ANYWAY, anything positive (or, to be more precise, NOT NEGATIVE;)) coming out of Newburgh brings back fond memories of an exceptionally naive childhood.

I may have to buy at least one just because.

Fingers crossed they go back to the $140-150 SRP on these, but something tells me it may jump closer to $199.  Sigh

The good news is - next week, I THINK (well, hope) I have a line on one bottle of the first iteration at about $125.  Now, if I can just remember which store I saw it in so I don't spend all day driving around after telling my wife, "I'm going Christmas shopping.  See you in about four hours."

Jim Morrison was a year ahead of me in the old George Washington High School in Alexandria, Virginia.  School did not have dances on the weekends (heck, we didn't have a real gym until my junior year), but his band did play at the rare "before school dance" in the cafeteria.  It was YEARS before I learned that the funny, smoky smell that sometimes followed him through the halls came from marijuana.  And it took a friend in California to point out to me that the Jim Morrison of Doors fame was the same JM I saw but never talked to at GWHS.

Assuming it is following the rules it should be at least 4 years old since it is NAS.

Maybe, but "Winter Rye" is also crossed out so who knows.

A Few 12 yr  High Proof KSBW from Strong Spirits in branded as Lucky 7 that appear to have some sort of film tie in, there were more of these a few weeks back:

This label bugs me, and makes obvious why we the TTB needs to legally define the term Single Malt, since this is a Single Malt Straight Bouron.....

https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/viewColaDetails.do?action=publicFormDisplay&ttbid=19302001000565

Not sure how this is different from the label already on the shelves but 12 Year Old Barrel Proof that should be labeled "a blend of Straight Bourbons" from musician Neil Giraldo

https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/viewColaDetails.do?action=publicFormDisplay&ttbid=19317001000537

For all of the Beer enthusiasts out there a Straight Malt from Three Floyds

I get it entirely and had some confusion about it.  Their "Single Malt" is 100% malted corn for the recipe.

I don’t think I have an issue with this since they clearly state that it’s made from 100% malted corn right on the front label. Accordingly, it technically is a Single Malt, just not barley, and it appears to meet the criteria for straight bourbon too...very interesting! I wish it had some more age on it, but I’d certainly like to taste it.

As a category Single Malt is recognized globally as Malted Barley, I understand what they were going for but I for one would like to see the US define Single Malt in the same way as Scotland to not water down the identity of the product. Call it Straight Malted Corn Bourbon or Malted Corn Whiskey.
