A new label for WT 101 that does away with the general statement of age, WT101 must be the most frequently refreshed packaging in all of bourbon

Wow, that's quite a change! ? FIVE separate labels, plus a fake tax strip.

The back label still has the misleading statement "aged for UP TO six to eight years".

I love how the new Waterfill and Frazier label really draws on the brands history. The picture below is from an old miniature I have. If this new bottle actually get released, I may have to buy one just because of the label

I was thinking the same thing.

I wonder who will be the source for the new stuff?

Regardless, 5 years old and 100 proof from any of KY's legacy distillers is interesting to me.

This one is interesting as it says "distilled and bottled by Pure Antique Distillery" which is really Preservation Distillery. I don't know much about those guys and am surprised they have 10yr old self distilled bourbon.

Also, while Sazerac doesn't necessarily have proprietary rights in the word ANTIQUE by itself, some might view "Pure Antique" bourbon bottled at 107 proof as loosely associating yourself with someone else's brand. If this product gets further than a TTB filing, we may see if Sazerac leadership/Sazerac's IP attorneys take this view.

This is one of barrels sold at our charity event with Willett and is a one off. Each group that bought a barrel was able to create a custom label.

And the whisper campaign they are conducting that one of their bottlings is Stitzel-Weller, when it just doesn't add up.

Their stuff might be good (in fact I'm hoping to soon find out myself), but much of their marketing strikes me as misleading to outright untrue.

Any info about the liquid in this Steve?  The old Vintage Bourbon 17 Yr was good and I regret not stocking up on that back in the day when I had a chance.

I don't know much about this particular barrel other than that it came from a mostly similar lot of barrels that all the groups picked from including ours.

The initial deal was that we all got to pick a 15yr old barrel. All groups had 8 samples to choose from (we picked at Willett in January so it was too cold to be in the rickhouses so we picked from large sample bottles in their new bar) and all groups got virgin samples. From seeing photos of sample bottles from the other groups we were able to see the barrel codes so we know that most of us were choosing barrels that came from the same original source. We don't know that source. Drew never tells!

Due to the custom labels and the need for TTB approval, everything took longer than normal so by the time the barrels got dumped they had turned 16. I can tell you that our barrel is amazing. The one we chose was my first choice so I'm happy about that. It narrowly beat the #2 choice in the vote from our tasting panel. I know the guy who runs Blackout and he has a great palate so I have every reason to believe that their barrel is also great.

Thanks for the detailed reply Steve. Sounds like a really cool experience. I got to meet Drew years ago at local tasting they put on at one of my local stores. Seemed like a cool guy.

Drew is great and is super generous.

Yeah - that Vintage label is great. Our group was actually considering using that. While we were trying to figure it out one of our guys was in Osaka at one of those bars with a ridiculous collection of dusties and he sent us a photo of a super old Willett squat bottle that became the basis for our label. We ended up combining that with the Johnny Drum age statement neck sticker for our bottle along with the wax dip.

Oops I thought the Vintage was your group's label. But I like yours all the same and I really like the tie-in to the old bottling. Well done as well.

Why not?

It's actually labeled correctly I guess, it shows as Straight Rye whiskey finished in...... which is how it should appear, I looked  at it quickly as I was churning through these this morning and missed that because of the way they spaced it.  That being said it isn't a straight whiskey since it is finished in another barrel.

They use the word Finished but it’s really just a double barrel product. The second barrel is new oak.

This can only mean they lost their rye source, right? I've never bought any of their stuff, as they're much more expensive than I feel like paying. But they seem to move off the shelves pretty well. Am I correct that these are presumably Barton? Would this be a casualty of the rickhouse collapse? Are they going to start bottling their own product (I admittedly dont even know if they distil), or is this like one of the many rock bands that says their doing a final tour then mysteriously 5 years down the road they do a reunion tour?

Barton rye is the rumored source? I haven’t heard that. What rye brands does Barton have? I’m having a CRS attack at the moment.

The last batch does seem dramatic and very tater-baitish.
