I really like everything I've tried from Islay, so I thought I'd stay there when I tried an un-peated expression. It was definitely out there. Lots of odd flavor combinations, but like you said, In a good way. I thought it was great!

Some surprisingly good un-peated juice comes from Islay indeed, Bruichladdich and Bunnahabhain are exceptional, and recently Kilchoman is doing great stuff. I also +100 the unpeated Caol Ila recommendation, any vintage you can get your hands on.

Although peated, there are some really interesting indie Bowmores out there that can offer up an experience 360˚ from the official bottlings-- this is one of my current "control malts."

Nice to have some sound effects with your pour… a little jingle for the jigger.

I stopped by a local store that's having a clearance sale this weekend.  I wasn't planning on picking up any scotch but i saw this for $20 and decided to change my mind pretty quickly.

I also saw this and wondered why so cheap... Could you take a pic of the label of your own bottle and post here? Also interested in your tasting notes of course.

Here's mine.  I will be happy to provide notes but it probably won't be any time soon.  With a 4 year old and a 15 month old, the opportunities to sit back and enjoy a drink are rare.

Baffling isn't it... Decent age, cask strength, single barrel. Tomatin isn't exactly the sexiest brand in the market but you'd still expect to pay a premium over the Johnnie Walker Red shelf.

For anyone that can do mail order, you can get it for $25 here:

This 2013 single cask release just showed up under a layer of dust today. Speaking of dust-- that's what th cork turned to upon opening.

I recently opened the sherry cask from the same vintage and my cork disintegrated too. Eagle Rare corks fit nicely though.

Really enamored by this Single Cask Series… unfortunately I've never found one close to home.

Difference between that and the 10 yr other than the age?
Same casking?

Pricing comparable?

Picked up an older bottling of Peat Monster (according to Google and Reddit, this is an early 2005 batch - but am reaching out to Compass Box for more info to see if it is materially different from the current stuff).  Figured $49.99 was a good price even if the whisky is the same.  Same store also had some older Asyla (didn't study the batch codes, but would guess from the same era; and for $39.99) but couldn't recall loving that one.  3rd stop on a 10+ store hunt, so stuck just with the PM :)

Age, proof (59.4% ABV cask strength vs. 45.8%), 100% first-fill ex-Bourbon casks, limited release and not available Stateside. In regards to pricing, it made quite a few "best bang for your buck 2018" lists.
