I love year-end inventory. This 2007 bottling was discovered today hidden behind a stack of standard fare...

This was too nifty to pass up-- unfortunately the single malts and single grain are not identified (other than by general flavor profile), but overall a pretty cool kit. The components are already diluted down to 40% and chill-filtered, so matching them up with better-presented independently bottled versions will be interesting…

I had a 28 year old under the Exclusive Malts label last year and it was outstanding.

This one? I lucked into a dusty discounted bottle myself recently-- looking forward to a bit of SBS action with the semi-dusty 15yo expression…

Yep same one, I left one behind at that, I remember when they first put this one out there was some opinion that it was overpriced but when it got replaced with the new Blue packaging it seemed to very much be lamented, I haven't had the new version as of yet.

I’m trying my first splash of Powers Three Swallows Tonight. I’m not getting a strong opinion from the initial dram. Further investigation is required.

Yeah, I’ve got a new front porch that needs breaking in too. Hopefully we will get to that before the annual St. Patrick’s Day event.

Grabbed this one based on Angus’ WF review— hopefully it’ll be as weird as described...

Carried this trio 75 blocks back to the hotel — they certainly didn’t skimp on the glass...

Wow...75 blocks! You certainly got your exercise.

Those bottles look great too!

I needed to work off lunch— but the 15 pounds of bottles seemed like 100 by the halfway mark. Looking forward to trying these, especially the 16yo.

This should be a good representation of the distillery spirit character... can’t have much wood influence at 7 years and a 744 bottle outturn from a single cask.

Decided to try my first Un-Peated Single Malt, Bruichladdich Classic Laddie. I love that you can go on their website and see the ages and types of barrels used to make your batch. I'm not Scotch Geek enough to appreciate all that info yet, but it is cool.

A very solid but also unusual first. I wouldn't think anything Bruichladdich to be representative of the traditional side of the category (in a good way!)

If you've had and liked Caol Ila in the past, you might try their un-peated whisky (if you can find it). The ones I've had have been cask strength and they're wonderful.

I really like everything I've tried from Islay, so I thought I'd stay there when I tried an un-peated expression. It was definitely out there. Lots of odd flavor combinations, but like you said, In a good way. I thought it was great!

I've yet to try Caol Isla. It's hard to find in my rural area. I've had the Lagavulin 16, Lap10 and Select, and Ardbeg10 (Listed by preference). I'm really looking forward to trying the peated expression from Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte.
