There has been lots of good chatter lately on the prices people would pay for limited editions and it got me thinking . . . dangerous, I know. Here is the hypothetical I'd like to pose to the forum. You walk into a unknown LS, browse around, and start chatting bourbon with the owner. After a few minutes he mentions that he had been holding certain bottles for a longstanding customer who just called and said due to personal reasons he was no longer able to drink bourbon and thus was unable to buy the aforementioned bottles. Right time, right place for you as the owner offers you the opportunity to purchase any or all of the bottles. Here is the list: W107 store pick x2 - $30; W12 x2 - $30 ETL x2 - $35; RHF x2 - $60 EH Taylor Barrel Proof - $70; Eh Taylor Four Grain - $70 Michter's 10 - $100; Michter's 10 Rye - $110 Old Fitz Bib 11 yr - $110; Old Fitz Bib 9 yr - $90 Heaven Hill 27 - $400 Russel's Reserve 2002 - $250 Booker's 30th - $200 Weller CYPB - $40 Four Roses 130th - $150 (having bought and tried this one... it's worth the cheddar) Old Forester Birthday Bourbon - $100 Parker's Heritage Orange Curacao - $90 Elijah Craig 18 - $110; Elijah Craig 23 - $200 WLW, Stagg, ER17, THH, Saz18 - $100 each Old Rip 10 - $60; Van Winkle Lot B - $70 Pappy 15 - $100; Pappy 20 - $170 Pappy 23 - $250; Van Winkle Rye - $120 Additional rules. 1 - anything bought has to be opened before leaving. Nothing has to be poured, but the seal needs to be broken. This is to eliminate responses like "buy it all and flip the Pappy 23 and 20 to cover cost" 2 - As you were wholly unprepared this will have to go on a card, no ability to hide the purchase from the wife. 3 - As you are thinking, dude behind you chimes in and says "I'll buy anything he does not want" No chance of coming back later for leftovers. So, what are you purchasing? I've marked the ones I'd buy in bold; as well as the ones I'd consider but hold off for now in italics.
GaryT
Nice topic/game! I'd be more choosy than I really would want to be (hell, I'd love to take most but not all of that home at that price). I'd restrict it to just: Van Winkle Rye $120WLW $100 Stagg $100PVW 15 $100 That keeps me under $500. I'd cry a little for leaving the FR130th behind (but having half-full bottles of several prior vintages, I can drown my sorrows in those).

You're actually expecting us to believe you would leave with only 4 of those bottles. Surely you jest.
NDN98
I would buy everything except the 2 Old Fitz's, the 2 Michter's, the Parker's Heritage, and the Booker's 30th. Then I would drive home contemplating how to explain the bourbon fairy story to my wife.

I rarely jest Honestly, if I walked into a store and saw any of the Michter's, Old Fitz, HH27, OFBB, EC18, EC23, or EHTs on the shelf at that price - I wouldn't be interested (maybe the barrel proof). Just not fans of those for the retail. And the 'no hiding it from the wife' rule forced me into a limit. Now if THAT rule didn't come into play - I'd absolutely be adding the OWAs, W12, ETLs, and RHFs

BourbonBuzz
Best ~$3500 I'd ever spend, and I'd do it again the following week. I have lots of friends who love bourbon too. We'd have a feast. My wife would either get over it or not. Edited January 21, 2019 by BourbonBuzz

EarthQuake
EHTBP, ETH4G, M10 B & R, Old Fitz 11 & 9, RR 2002, FR 130, Stagg, ER17, THH, Saz18, Pappy 15, Van Winkle Rye Pass on Weller and most of the Pappy - BT wheaters aren't really my thing. I have plenty of EC18 otherwise I would probably grab it too, and I have too much Rhetoric 23-25 that I got for $140 and less to pay $200 for EC23. I would be selling some stuff related to other hobbies when I got home (photograph gear probably). I think it would be interesting to see what people would buy if they could only spend a fixed amount, let's say $500. For me that would be: Four Roses 130 $150 Stagg $100 ER17 $100 EHT BP & 4G $140 $490 total

If that’s cheating then I’m going with PVW20 ($170) PVW15 ($100) VWRye ($120) and WLW ($100) total of $490.
